Freda Ann Cleek, 88, of Middleton, passed from this life Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026, at her home. Services were held at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Bolivar beginning at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. Dennis Cleek and James McKinney officiated. Burial took place at Pleasant Springs Methodist Church Cemetery in Pinson immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the Pinson Church of God. Shackelford Funeral Directors in Bolivar is honored to have assisted the family.
She was born on Thursday, June 23, to the late James Loyce Vandiver and Beulah Hysmith Vandiver. She was a Tennessee native and lived in both Chester and Hardeman Counties for the majority of her life. She married the love of her life, Jerry D. Cleek on June 25, 1955 in Corinth, Miss. She held many jobs through the years, such as doing factory work and being the secretary for Cleek Pest Control, but her favorite role that she ever had was that of a homemaker. She enjoyed time spent canning, cooking and doing her garden each year. She also enjoyed the time spent with her family and her grandchildren. She also enjoyed crappy fishing and spending time with her church family.
She was a member of the Church of God in Pinson.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Jerry D. Cleek; daughters, Darlene (David) Mott and Cathy Ann Cleek Stranz; son, Dennis (Laura) Cleek; sisters, Wanda Faye (Joe) Breece, Brenda (Jerry) Guinn, Karen Ross, Judy Foster, Marilyn (Arnold) Rowin; brother, Mike (Debbie) Vandiver; grandchildren, Matthew (Chelsea) Stranz, Alyssa (Kevin) Harris, Jonathan (Jessica) Mott, Molly (John) Bond, Andy (Amy) Cleek and Amanda (Greg) Young; great-grandchildren, Jathan Mott, Jaxton Mott, Andrew Stranz, Emma Bond, Madison Bond, Landon Bond, Tatum Cox and Jeremy and Colton Cleek. She is also survived by the 16 foster kids that she had taken in and raised. She considered them as her own. They all called her Mama.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Carolyn Vaughn.
