Donna Elise Chandler Scobey, 76, of Friendship, departed this life Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026, at her home in Friendship. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at Silerton Baptist Church Cemetery in Silerton. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening, Sept. 17, at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Bolivar. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. (www.cancer.org)
She was born Saturday, Dec. 24, 1949, to the late Joseph William Chandler and Sarah Tull Chandler in Jackson. She graduated from Chester County High School in 1967. She married James “Mack” Scobey on Friday, Feb. 16, 1979. She worked as a factory worker for multiple companies, including Harmon, Inc., Springer Garments and Siegel-Robert until retiring in 2015. She was a member at Silerton Baptist Church in Silerton.
She enjoyed gardening and planting flowers, and she was an animal lover with a strong affection for pigs. She lived in Bolivar most of her life until moving to Ripley and Friendship in her later years.
She is survived by her daughter, Tilly Barnett of Friendship; her son, Woody Compton of Crawford, Texas; her sisters, Judy (James) Dillard and Carolyn (Bob) Vales Kramer, both of Bolivar; her grandchildren, John Stearns, Samantha Daily, Lily Barnett, Colton Compton and Kelsey Ewing; her nephews, Jeff Vales and Jason Vales; a niece, Debbie Dillard; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James “Mack” Scobey; two brothers-in-law, James Dillard and Danny Vales; and a nephew, Bill Dillard.
