The City of Henderson Board of Mayor and Aldermen met in regular schedule Thursday, Oct. 8, at Henderson City Hall, with all members present.
The Board voted unanimously, with a roll call vote, to adjust their meeting schedule and will regularly meet at 6 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month, beginning with October’s meeting and moving forward. This ordinance also provides the mayor the authority to postpone a meeting for one week due to inclement weather and allows the Board the authority to reschedule for “any good and sufficient reason when it is known in advance that a quorum for the future meeting date cannot be obtained,” each provided measures are taken to notify the public and media of the change.
Sheila Eckard addressed the Board concerning housing for the homeless community, requesting that the City recognize the need and consider providing housing, especially heading into the winter months. Eckard said she had felt emboldened to speak up about it after seeing an article about another small town’s efforts. Mayor Bell shared that the City provides warming center at the City Hall Storm Shelter and said he would consider the need and a potential solution.
