The Chester County Eagles went on the road Friday night to face the Jackson South Side Hawks in a regional matchup. The Eagles, hungry for a win, walked away with a 35-20 victory marking their second win of the season.
Before the game Eagle coach Dewond Johnson said, “I feel good about this week. The team practiced well, and we are going to see what happens tonight. If everyone does their job, we’ll be fine and that’s what we have been practicing all week. Just do your jobs and take care of your responsibilities.”
The Eagles got off to a shaky start, fumbling the ball on the first play from scrimmage at the 29-yard-line. The defense held firm not allowing them to score.
Following a pass interference call against the Eagles, South Side was able to get into the endzone with 8:08 left in the first quarter. South Side ended the quarter with a 7-0 lead.
As the second quarter began running back Peyton Barham found the goal line with 11:47 on the clock, knotting the score at 7. Aidan Welch scored the second touchdown of the night bringing the score to 14-7 in favor of the Eagles.
With less than a minute before halftime the Hawks found the endzone again. The score at halftime was tied at 14.
The third quarter came and went with neither team adding to the scoreboard.
Going into the final period, with the score tied at 14, Eagle quarterback Ethan Burks found Barham in the endzone for his second score of the night. The score was now 21-14. South Side found the endzone again with two minutes left on the clock. The extra point attempt failed making the score 21-20 in favor of the Eagles.
Barham and Colton Trice each added to the score with touchdowns, marking Barham’s third score of the night making the final score 35-20.
Coach Johnson said after the game that it was a “big win for us.”
The Eagles are now 1-0 in the region and 2-2 overall.
They will host South Gibson County next week.
