Officers and Investigators with the Henderson Police Department have been busy solving a one-man crime spree that happened over the weekend. It began when Officers responded to a local convenient store to ban an individual who they believed may have been trying to steal something. Officers banned the man at approximately 12:50 a.m. The next morning officers responded to the Americana Inn on reports of multiple tires being slashed in the parking lot. Those officers began reviewing cameras from the hotel, local businesses and HPD cameras and were able to determine that the tires were slashed around 12:56 a.m. by the same individual the night shift had dealt with. This all occurred in the early morning hours of June 7.
On Monday, June 8, officers responded to Discount Cigarettes on Whitely Avenue. Officers were able to pull video of the male breaking out the front door entering the building and stealing some items. While on scene officers who had worked the incident the day before watched the video and confirmed it was the same person who had slashed the tires the night before. Entry was made at Discount Cigarette at 4:33 a.m. on the morning of June 8, 2026.
Later, officers responded to Subway and determined that at around 2:23 a.m. on June 8, 2026, the same male tried to break out the front door of their store. Investigators then started canvasing the downtown area and discovered that the front door of Besso’s had been badly damaged. This had occurred at around 2:20 a.m. on June 8, 2026.
Investigators again reviewed store cameras and a downtown HPD camera and were able to determine the same male had tried to gain entry to both downtown businesses.
Warrants were taken out on Matthew Puckett of Henderson. Officers with HPD did take him into custody at his residence without incident. He faces an array of charges including vandalism, theft and burglary. Any other businesses that occurred any damage over the same time period are urged ot call 989-2201 to report it.
Chief of Police Gary A. Davidson said, “This is a great example of where good old fashioned police work, communication between shifts, technology and investigative techniques, combined solve crime. I am first off extremely proud of the work and dedication of the HPD officers and secondly proud of the investment the City of Henderson has made by installing crime fighting cameras. It took all things working together to solve this crime spree.”
