Greetings to the people of Chester County everywhere! This is a new week, and we have only one more full week left in January. Let us give thanks to the Lord for all He has done for us because this is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!
On Monday, Jan. 19, many of us enjoyed a day off from work and school in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday. I hope you were able to take time to relax, enjoy moments with family and friends and reflect on why we honor Dr. King and what he stood for here in the United States of America. On Sunday, Jan. 18, a wonderful celebration took place at Chester County City Hall. Mayor Terry Bell, other elected officials and members of the community gathered to help keep Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Dream alive. Aja Douglass did an outstanding job singing the National Anthem. She truly tore the house down! It was that good. Youths of all ages from our community proudly held American flags high and waved them in the air. It was absolutely phenomenal!
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Mass Choir, directed by Mr. Lewis Thompson, presented a powerful original song titled “You Were Right There.” The song reminds us that the Lord is with us through every season of life, whether we are facing the loss of a loved one, sickness, broken hearts, or other trials. This song touched so many hearts and reminded us that, no matter what we go through, the Lord wis right there. Lewis, thank you for sharing this powerful song with us. It truly was a blessing.
Mr. Leroy Woods delivered an outstanding performance of “I Want to Be Ready When Jesus Comes.” He sang from his heart, and it showed. The song was powerful and moving.
Pastor Vernon Brice, pastor of Kingdom Builders Christian Center, brought forth a wonderful message – powerful, meaningful, and straight to the point. He reminded us of the purpose of Dr. King’s mission here on earth and why the Dream is still so important today. He encouraged us to act on the Dream, to come together as one and to share the power we have within our community.
Mayor Terry Bell presented the City and County Proclamations to Dr. Jerry Woods and Mr. Carter Scales. Thank you to the committee, Dr. Jerry Woods, Mrs. Amanda Johnson and the MLK Mass Choir for all your hard work in making this program such an outstanding and successful event. A special thank you to Pastor Nicholas O’shield of The Next Level Church here in Henderson. It was an honor and a pleasure meeting you. The words you shared before the benediction were profound, especially your message about the importance of community. We pray the Lord will continue to bless you abundantly.
To everyone that did not attend, I hope you will attend the next one in 2027. It is not just for a certain group of people; it is for all of us to remember the “Dream.”
