Silerton Community News

Election season is now mercifully over. Many thanks to the election volunteers who made the balloting go so smoothly at the Silerton Volunteer Fire Department. Congratulations to the winners, and a slap on the back to those who did not win but had the honor of participating in this great democracy of ours. The hard work of picking up candidates’ yard signs now begins. Candidates will be judged by how well this goes.
Please continue your prayers for several in the Silerton community: for Gloria, sister to Jeanie Crouthers, as she undergoes surgery. Prayers also for Gwen Cox, Robert/Wanda Fry and Grady Stack. Prayers and condolences to the family of David Reagan of Michigan, who passed away on Aug. 5. David was an in-law to the Stacks here in Silerton.
Happy birthdays were sung to Dawn Boykin and Jennifer Howell at Silerton Baptist Church. Happy birthday as well to Francis Rush Stack.
Frankie and Mary Lynn Lambert are visiting family in Toledo, Ohio. Mary Lynn would also like to proudly announce that her granddaughter, Merry Ashlyn Guyette (nee Gatewood), passed her Bar examination this summer. Merry and her husband Jake have settled into their new home in Jackson where she will be working for a judge.
We were remiss last week and failed to congratulate Mike Alexander on his retirement from being a County Commissioner for Chester County for 24 years. Though Mike and his wife Trish live in Henderson, they are stalwart members of Silerton Baptist Church and very much a part of the Silerton community. While we in Hardeman County might not fully know the goings-on of Chester County, we do know Chester County was fortunate in receiving totally conscientious and sincere service from Mike. Though Chester County residents might not have received a chicken in each pot (Trish told him not to use that slogan), we know he did his utmost.
