As Silerton thaws out, there seems to be a need for several categories of prayer. One type is the obvious – a sincere call to prayer for those who were hurt or suffered any losses. Thankfully, most of the falls that we have heard of have not been too serious, which calls for prayers of thanks. This brings us to the prayers of thanks for those of us who started to slip on the ice, with a prescient sense of panic as to our impending doom, and but for the faintest wisp of God’s grace, did not continue to slip and launch ourselves into the next county.
Many thanks to the many utility professionals who worked long and hard in these terrible conditions to restore the essentials of modern life to our communities. Your skills and diligence are as valuable as what electricity and potable water bring us.
It was very comforting to return to services at Silerton Baptist after the long two-week hiatus. Prayers for Valerie LaVanway’s family. Valerie departed this earthly life on Jan. 25 and is the mother of Ashley Leatherwood. Condolences to the family of Joyce Sue Sissom. Joyce was the mother of Lois Stack and Junior Brown. Prayers for Anita Lambert, who as a recidivist had another trip to the “big house,” but is paroled out now. Prayers for Tim James who continues with his recovery, which makes us all very happy.
There will be a soup and sandwich fellowship at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at the church. Please bring yourselves and any soup or sandwich you would like to. All are welcome.
Here are some February birthdays: Lynn Cook (Feb. 8), Joseph Lambert (Feb. 17), Glenn Stack (Feb. 20), Bryan Banks (Feb. 26) and Tammy Foote (Feb. 27).
Free Chair Yoga classes will be twice weekly at Silerton Baptist Church starting the first week of March. Classes will be at 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
During this ice/snow storm, the Frys noticed an uptick in little birds doing kamikaze attacks on our patio glass door. Distressing to see the little warrior’s bodies strewn on the patio. Have others experienced this?
On the goat front: The circle of life. One of the two goats who was attacked by a feral dog ended up succumbing to her wounds. The other continues to recuperate. Did you know goat yoga is a real thing!? Whereby goats, usually kids (thankfully), jump on your back along with snuggling, etc. Look it up if you do not believe. As enlightened as Silerton is and as blessed as we are with goats, it is doubtful that goat yoga will establish itself here.
