Many thanks to the Silerton Baptist Church members who helped take down and put away the Christmas decorations. Happy birthdays were sung to Trish Alexander and Joe Stack. A happy anniversary was sung to Matt and Heather Harris. Prayers requested for Robert and Wanda Fry.
Marcus and Jamie Fry had the pleasure of visiting Vonda Siler at her assisted living home in Jackson. A good chat was had, and she was updated on Silerton events. She is doing well, and much reminiscing was done over her late husband, Bill, and Silerton.
Robert and Carolyn Kramer enjoyed a visit from their granddaughter, Zoe Vales, over the Christmas holidays. Richard, Rita and Rick Crowley enjoyed having their family in for the holidays.
Joseph and Rachel Lambert are moving to their new home. They purchased the mobile home on Siler Lane in Silerton. They are moving from the “pad” where they have lived since their marriage.
On the goat front: As promised in the last column, certain malcontents were given their lump of coal. Six bucks were separated from the herd (that alone was an adventure unto itself) and taken to auction at Scotts Hill. The process of taking them to auction had a definite sense of gravitas and finality. Having never done it before, it reminded Marcus of the beginning of Dante’s Divine Comedy: The Inferno. Marcus played the part of the pilgrim being given the “tour.” The ever poetic Joe Stack very appropriately played the part of the guide and Rome’s greatest poet, Virgil. Marcus saw the pens, other malcontents from the surrounding farms, the infamous arena and benches, etc. All presented with “Virgil’s” insightful commentary. As the turn for the trailer inexorably came and as it pulled up to the entrance gate, the only thing missing was an inscription over the gate, saying: “Abandon hope, all ye who enter here.” Suffice it to say, the remaining herd at the farm, though greatly confused at first, are now very clearly a much calmer and orderly outfit.
