The Silerton Volunteer Fire Department had their fundraising buffet/potluck this past Saturday. Great food was had by all with many bringing their favorite recipes. If you have the inclination, please consider volunteering your time and effort at the fire department. You do not have to perform firefighting duties to volunteer; there are administrative/backroom/leadership duties available.
Silerton Baptist Church will be having a Hayride on Nov. 1 followed by a weenie roast. The pastor search committee will be meeting after service on Sunday, Oct. 26. The membership sang happy birthday to Grady Stack.
Wanda Cook was pleased to have her younger sister, Judy Greenslade, come for a visit and attend church service with her and Lynn Cook. Judy comes from the Fayetteville, Ark., area.
Leo, Larry and Frankie Lambert just got back from visiting Leo’s first cousin’s (Sherry Wilson) grave in south Memphis. After visiting the cemetery, they all had lunch at O’Charley’s. They always enjoy spending time together, either staying out of trouble or getting into trouble as the occasion calls for.
Jamie Fry just returned from a trip to Amarillo, Texas, to visit her father, Bob Scholl. Bob is a retired geologist/wildcatter. On the way to Amarillo, Jamie took a side trip to Gainesville, Texas, to visit her Aunt Sarah (Bob’s sister).
Carolyn and Bob Kramer traveled to Green Bay, Wis., last week to attend the Green Bay Packer’s game at Lambeau Field. They met up with Bob’s sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Larry Schroeder. They also toured the Lambeau Stadium where they got to experience sitting in the VIP suites and walking out onto the field through the doorway that the Packers use as they run out onto the field. Also, they got to tour the locker rooms. They also toured the Hall of Fame, shopped at the Pro Shop and attended the VIP tailgate party. They all had a great time at the game and eating out. It also fulfilled one of Carolyn’s bucket list items, it being the first time visiting Green Bay and Lambeau field. By the way, the Packers won 27 to 18 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Frys were treated by a visit from Joe Stack who came by to offer some of his homemade goat cheese. The cheese was exceptionally good to say the least. Truly delicious in the most sublime way, by far the envy of any Wisconsin cheese! Joe has a little over 40 goats at the moment. The goats and Joe cause constant mischief for each other, but if ever there was a match made in heaven, this is it. While some communities are blessed with having a “horse whisperer,” “dog whisperer,” etc., Silerton is fortunate to have their very own “goat whisperer.” In the cheese, you could taste the deep abiding love, not to mention the understanding most of the goats have for Joe.
