Platt earns M.D.

On May 12, Derek Platt, M.D., Ph.D. completed the final part of his studies to become a physician-scientist, graduating with a medical doctorate (M.D.) degree.
Prior to completing medical school, Derek completed a B.S. in Cell and Molecular Biology in 2015. He then completed a Ph.D. in Molecular Microbiology and Microbial Pathogenesis in 2021.
This June, he will begin the next step of his career, which is medical residency. He has decided to complete residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in gastroenterology. For this, he will be staying at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, his number one choice.
Upon completion of residency and fellowship, Derek will practice as a gastroenterologist and run a biomedical research laboratory that studies microbiology, immunology, and autoimmune disease.
He is the son of Jerome and Elaine Platt.
