“The Spirit is beyond destruction. No one can bring to an end the Spirit which is everlasting.” - Bhagavad Gita
Our community expresses sympathy to the families of Janice Gayle Melton (10-18-49 to 3-9-22); Jerry Wayne Taylor (7-25-49 to 3-7-22); Adam Randall Wilson (3-2-84 to 3-9-22); Wayne Shelt Grow (8-27-66 to 3-10-22); and Braden Lavern Bailey (11-5-28). Jacks Creek had a popular couple named Lavern and Shirley. The couple ran Bailey grocery and raised three nice daughters, Nancy, Jan and Joanie. Shirley has been an excellent caregiver for her beloved husband. We were all saddened the day of the funeral. Their daughter Joanie had an accident with severe injuries that requires lots of time to heal. Call me for Joanie’s address. Cards will help her grief and healing. Send sympathy cards to the Bailey Family - 760 Williams Road Henderson 38340.
The northern blowing snow left four inches of beautiful snow. Here it started March 11 beginning at 8:30 at night. Magically, it was erased by Sunday, March 13. There was no snowman or snow cream to enjoy. Lots of people like that kind of weather in March, but buttercups did bow their beautiful blonde cups and some yellow bell shrubs are not as perk. I hope the budding trees are not hurt. I would hate to have no fresh peaches or see red buds and dogwoods bloom.
Weather tidbits: Saturday, March 7, 2008 - a four-inch snow arrived and was gone on Sunday; on March 8, 2015 - the wind chill was minus 5 degrees. That hurts bones and joints; March 22, 1952 - a tornado tragically hit Henderson and other communities killing 23. That hurts the heart deeply.
Interesting tidbits: a new Jacks Creek School gym roof fell Sunday, March 23, 1958. Gasoline in 1939 was sixteen cents a gallon!
Jacks Creek misses friends remembered in March – Brenda Ryals (3-2-12); Wilma Hart (3-4-13); Dr. Maurice Bateman (3-4-15); Raford Nobles (3-4-11); Timothy Phillips (3-9-12); Allene Weatherington (3-19-19); Odessa Austin (3-9-16); Herman Holmes (3-10-12); Billy Connor (3-10-12); Kathy Pitts (3-11-16); Sheila Elder Cox (3-13-22); Tylene Seaton (3-14-13); Bryan Williams (3-18-13); Betty Cochran Maness (3-16-12); Bobby Coady (March 16-15); Roy Randolph (3-18-11); Fentress Casey (3-21-13); Martha Crowe (3-24-14); Dianne Grissom Reed (3-26-16) – her mom, Lounell Grissom is at Briars Healthcare in Lexington – drop cards.
Celebrating birthdays in heaven – Neva Harvey (3-6); Ann Bailey (3-7); Fentress Casey (3-8); Danny Higgins (3-17); Margaret Bingham (3-20); Lloyd Richardson (3-21); Nathan Wright (3-21); Tim Hudson (3-26); Mary Privett (3-27); friends still remembered with love. Also, earthly birthday wishes to Geralene Thomson (3-8); Brenda Richardson Clark (3-22) and Mallorie Pusser Watkins (3-24).
Concerned friends gathered for an important meeting to help Loving Paws Rescue. Carol Preuss needs our help. A rescue can not operate without fundraisers. Don and I attended last week with over 20 other responsible animal lovers. They have organized activities to make the effort to reach out to Chester County. The events and more information is on Facebook. Call Sharon Thomas (731-234-3434), Janeane Moore (731-608-2924) or Pat Jones (989-7485) for details for your help and drop locations. Please help – it WILL make a difference to Loving Paws and our furry friends.
The first events will be April 1-2 at J&J Warehouse (across from Bells Drive-in). Please “declutter for dogs.” A community yard sale will help animals and help you clean your attic and declutter your home with what you no longer need or desire. Your items might be clutter to you, but a treasure to others. Community yard sale will serve hot dogs and hamburgers on April 2 at the J & J Warehouse. Special T-shirts are being presold on the Facebook site and at the community yard sale.
I hope Jacks Creek community pals will have a strong showing of support. I can not count the number of dogs and cats Loving Paws has rescued for our neighborhood. I do know 25 puppies were in Carol’s loving care on Christmas day. I do not know how much cheer Carol had on Christmas, but she washed a lot of doggy blankets! Do not just TAKE from Loving Paws – GIVE to Loving Paws. Can you imagine not having a rescue?
A Facebook “GoFundMe” is up and running. Other upcoming events known now are — J&J Warehouse has already presold 23 gallons of stew, so order from Sharon Thomas at 234-3434; silent auction at First Bank; and communities are placing “donation boxes” in businesses. Many other exciting events are being planned. Can any of you share time to peel potatoes, carrots or cut celery?
PLEASE help Loving Paws. We need this rescue. If responsible people would only spay and neuter many animals could be saved from being cruelly discarded. Loving Paws can not save them all, but you can spay or neuter. You CAN afford the surgery cost – eating out, buying beer or cokes or renting movies is not necessary, but animals have no income so they CAN NOT spay and neuter themselves. PLEASE do your part. Loving Paws receives your donation by Pal Pay on Facebook or checks can be sent to Loving Paws, 2035 Brown Cemetery Road – Luray 38352 or call Carol at 501-6836.
Thank you to my three friends whom have already donated checks to Loving Paws. I know who you are. I love you for your kind heart for our furry friends and your love to me!
