Hello to everyone! Greetings from the City. This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. The Lord has allowed us to see a new month. April is gone, and the month of May is here. The wild flowers are blooming; the trees and grass have turned green. Many birds have built their nests, and mother birds are sitting on the eggs, which will soon hatch.
Speaking of hatching, my mind goes back many years ago when life was so different. There was a Head Start teacher by the name of Mrs. Linda Swafford, who was the senior teacher at that time. Many of you could have had a child in her classroom, or maybe you were that child in her classroom. Linda would bring her incubator and eggs into the classroom so the children could see how baby chicks develop inside the egg. The experience was very exciting for the parents and children. After 21 days each child received their very own baby chick to take home with them and to care for. The children were so happy to receive their very own baby chick to take home at the end of the school year. This year, a teacher by the name of Mrs. Wanda Martin allowed the children in Head Start to experience how a chick was developing inside an egg. Each day, the children and teachers would hold the eggs under a light to see the baby chick inside of the egg. The children were so excited, and the parents were as well. Thank you to all Head Start teachers in the present and in the past. You have made a difference in so many children life.
On Sunday night, I received a phone call from a very excited grandmother! Being a grandmother myself, I know how she felt. The grandmother was telling me some good news about a Chester County Head Start baby. I was getting just as excited as she was as she told me the news! So let me tell you! This young lady was a student in Chester County Head Start, graduated from high school and attended Texas Southern University. Now, she is an author of a book: Her mother is Mrs. Kenyatta Davis-Massey (Kenyatta, thank you for your service!); her proud grandparents are Mr. Todd and Mrs. Patty Davis. Ms. Azaria C. Atkins, the City of Henderson and your family says, “Congratulations!” on your first book! The title of her book is “My Path to a Successful Life Manifestation Journal,” and it is on Amazon for sell! I have already ordered my copy. I can not wait to start reading it! Go online and purchase your copy! Great job, Azaria!
This school year is coming to a close soon. The City of Henderson would like to say thank you to every educator that had a part in teaching our children. Parents, thank you for been there for your children to help them as well! Parents, remember you are your child’s first teacher!
The most important day for the month of May is coming soon - Mother’s Day. The word of God reads in Exodus 20:12, “Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.” Mother’s Day is always the on the second Sunday of May. Sunday, May 14, is Mother’s Day. As a mother myself, I know motherhood is an overwhelming feeling of joy, happiness, fear and anxiety all rolled into one heart and is something you must have what is called unconditional love. I am a grandmother and a great-grandmother, and I enjoy every minute of it. Oh, how I wish I had my mother in flesh to kiss those soft jaws…but while she was on this earth for 84 years, we had some great times together.
You know what? If I had not had a GREAT example in my life of what a mother should be, I would not be the women and mother I am today! My mother, Mrs. Annie Clay Brown, taught me how to be the person I am today. She taught all of her children and other children in the community as well. My mother was a kind, sympathetic, caring and compassionate to everyone. She also loved to cook and was a very good one! People would come miles around to eat at the old restaurant in Henderson named “The Skylark”; some of you may remember it from back in the day. Most of all, she was a woman that loved the Lord and set the example of a holy woman. My mother is not with me on this earth, but she is with me every day of my life. I can not kiss her little soft jaws, give her BIG hugs, have the mother and daughter days out or go to her house and smell the food cooking on the stove, but she is in my heart always. The family will go to her grave site and place flowers on her grave. I will always miss and love her!
So on this Mother’s Day, remember your mother; do something VERY special on that day and every day of her life! The City of Henderson says to all of the mothers, “Have a HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!”
