Hello from Enville! I hope everyone is having a great week! I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas with your family and friends. With the weather we had over the holiday, some flights were delayed or canceled. The road conditions were treacherous for those driving home for the holidays; hopefully, everyone was safe and had a blessed time!
We are now getting ready for the New Year. Lots of folks will be celebrating New Year’s Eve. I pray everyone will celebrate safely and make memories with those around you. On New Year’s Day, our family will have our traditional meal of hog jowl, black eyed peas, cabbage, turnip greens, cornbread and more. Hog jowl is to ensure health, prosperity and progress; peas became symbolic of luck; cabbage and greens both represent “green” money in New Year’s tradition; and the color of the cornbread represents “gold” or “coin” money. Our family loves this “good ole” country grub. Danny has to fry up a big platter of hog jowl, and there is none left on the plate. I have eaten this New Year’s meal all of my life and hope to keep it up for the rest of it!
Happy birthday wishes go to Danny Swafford and Rae Harwell on Dec. 30, Frankie Finley and Megan Weeks on Dec. 31, Mary Jo Hughes on Jan. 1, Gene Hanna on Jan. 2, Tammy Austin and Killan Middleton on Jan. 3. Happy anniversary to Larry and Priscilla Gilbert on Dec. 31 and Tom and Rae Harwell on Jan. 1. We hope you all enjoy your special day!
On our prayer list this week is Lisa Bishop, Mary Lee Guyon, Janice and Danny Keen, Tera O’Neal, Agnes Smith, Linda and Robert Johnson, Florence Stublaski, Ashley Pugh, Harold and Janice Maness, Ann Pugh, Emily Freeman, Nicole Thompson, Kathy Emerson, Loretta Plunk, Rick Ooley, Mike Pugh, Charlie Kent, Tim Harris, Tim and Tabitha Hampton, Shirley Hampton, Edward Bethune, Della Mixon, Jimmy Robertson, Larry and Priscilla Gilbert, those who have lost loved ones, those battling COVID, our firefighters, first responders, law enforcement, healthcare workers, military, schools and school board and, as always, each other.
Have a blessed week everyone!
