It is a great week to be a student at Jacks Creek Elementary! Read on to hear about the amazing things we are learning to do!
Kindergarten is reading words with ch, sh, th, qu and ng sounds. We are working on reading fluency and addition fluency. We are learning about farms, animals and crops and why they are important to us as a community!
Our first graders have continued to work hard, learning about the history of our Earth. They even enjoyed watching a homemade volcano made by each of their teachers, Ms. Vicki and Ms. Kady. Their skills work during reading has involved multi-syllable words, nouns and verbs, and r-controlled vowels. Math continues to involve adding and subtracting with missing numbers and adding 3 addends.
In second grade we are continuing our focus on reading, reading and reading. We have had lots of fun reading Dr. Seuss books together this week as well as dressing like those characters. We especially like Pajama Day and getting to read with our little flashlights. We want to thank our practicum students from Freed-Hardeman University, Ms. Anna Shotts and Ms. Megan Sanfratello, who also read to us. We are excited to have them in our classes working with us. We are focused on subtraction in math with 3-digit numbers this week, and we will be reviewing all second grade math standards next week as we head toward Mastery Connect Assessments mid-March. We have a lot to stay focused on and work toward before Spring Break week.
In third grade next week, we will be finishing our Unit on Colonial America. We will begin Ecology at the end of the week. We will also begin Time! We have had a great time celebrating Dr. Seuss.
Our first student spotlight of the week goes to Hermelinda Aldana whose favorite food is fruit and favorite book is “The Cat in the Hat.” Our second student spotlight of the week goes to Avery Willis whose favorite food is spaghetti and favorite book is “Dog Man.” Last week, we celebrated Cole Ross and Jakob Wilson as our students of the week! We are proud to have these students shine brightly at our school!
Thank you so much for your hard work during the Dominos’ Fundraiser. We raised $3,030 thanks to your generous donations to our school!
