We had a great week here at Jacks Creek Elementary school!
Kindergarten is working on 3D shapes, counting by 10s and counting to 100 as we celebrate our 100th day of school. We are reading short stories on our own and writing simple sentences.
We have had a fun week in first grade! We are reading about the layers of the earth, volcanoes and geysers. We did a volcano experiment. In skills we are finishing up our unit on long vowel digraphs. In math we have worked on missing numbers in equations and true and false equations. We celebrated the 100th day of school by dressing up and bringing in 100 objects from home so that we could do counting activities.
In second grade we have been working hard on improving our reading skills, phonics and grammar. We are using these skills to move our independent reading along with chapter books now! It is exciting to be able to pick out bigger, more interesting books to read! We will begin a listening unit next week on the “War of 1812.” In math we have been measuring length and height of objects using inches, feet, yards, centimeters and meters. This has been a very interactive unit for us. Over the next weeks, we will be doing lots of review over math skills we have learned this year. We do not want to forget the things we have worked hard to learn.
In third grade we continued our reading unit on Native Americans. We practiced reading the stories of the Native Americans out loud. At the end of the unit, students will read a story of their choice to the class. We will continue to learn about the different tribes and traditions for the next two weeks. In math we started our unit on fractions. Students are learning how to break a whole into equal parts. We continue to test fluency with multiplication facts. As always, skip counting and multiplication is so important to practice at home. The more they practice, the more confident they will become.
Our Beekeeper of the Week goes to Rylee Wright, who says his favorite book is “Monkey” and his favorite foods are pizza and macaroni and cheese. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Beekeeper of the Week goes to Kaela Autry. Her favorite book is the Bible, and her favorite food is Mexican! We appreciate all that she does as one of our school nurse!
Labeling Items of Clothing: as temperatures continue to fall, remember to label your child’s winter clothing items (jackets, coats, hats, etc.). We have a few jackets hanging on our lost and found rack.
