Hello to all from this little corner of the world. We are officially in August, which is normally a hot month, but we had some extremely hot weather in July. I am looking forward to cooler days. Maybe we can try a few flowers that will not wither regardless of care. The flowers in a variety of colors downtown are lovely! The skies were a light bluish-gray with white clouds on Saturday, and the temperature at the time of this writing was 82 degrees and felt like 87. This is a lot better than last week.
We voted early, those who did not may vote on Election Day, August 6.
Well, the first week of school has begun. Hopefully, everyone is prepared as much as they can be. The children should have bedtime schedules, especially elementary age. I would allow Junior High children a little later and take the phones and headphones up at bedtime. We all know that they stay awake much longer with these in their bedrooms. Encourage them and ask about their day. Talk to your children about bullying. It is not acceptable behavior. It is never acceptable, even in the adult world. I wish all the students and faculty a very good year. Try and enjoy the time because before you know it, it will be over.
Condolences to all who have lost loved ones. Prayers are with you all.
Happy birthday to Don McLemore and Rachel Ellington, 8-1; Tyler Smith and Tanya Morris, 8-2; Karen Stutts and Nancy B. Taylor, 8-3; and Aiden Seaton, 8-4.
Happy anniversary to Bliss and Shawn Swayne, 8-8.
Prayer requests for Donna Bishop, Walker Bishop, Bobby Bray, Chastity King, Darren Hatch, Danny and Gail Hodges, Doug Johnson, Alvin and Eva Jones, Kenneth Maness, Elaine Matthews, Darryl Newsom, Harold Nobles, Julia Parchman, Beth Plunk, Pam Priddy, Jimmy Redden, Teresa Tedford, Cheryl Tobey, John Webb, Charles and Natalie Wray and the family of Junior Hatch. Also, remember our first responders, military, firefighters and law enforcement officers.
“The Way to God” by Helen Steiner Rice: “If my days were untroubled and my heart was always light/Would I seek that fair land where there is no night/If I never grew weary with the weight of my load/Would I search for God’s peace at the end of the road/If I never knew sickness and never felt pain/Would I reach for a hand to help and sustain/If I walked not with sorrow and lived without loss/Would my soul seek sweet solace at the foot of the cross/If all I desired was mine day by day/Would I kneel before God and earnestly pray/If God sent no ‘Winter’ to freeze me with fear/Would I yearn for the warmth of ‘Spring’ every year/I ask myself this and the answer is plain/If my life were all pleasure and I never knew pain/ I’d seek God less often and need Him much less/For God is sought more often in times of distress/And no one knows God or sees Him as plain/As those who have met Him on ‘the pathway of pain.’”
I pray all of you will have a wonderful week and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings. Remember: if you have news, please email me at mimmiepots@gmail.com. I’d truly appreciate any news. People from here and those that have moved from our area, still want to keep in touch through the newspaper and are hungry for news from home. Until next week, Happy Trails to You.
