Hello to all from this little corner of the world. Monday was cloudy; the rain eventually stopped. We had heavy rain several times Sunday. As of today, the forecast is calling for more rain Wednesday with a high that day for 51 degrees and Thursday through Sunday nighttime temps to be in the upper 30’s. I guess we can say summer is gone until next year.
Well, the fair is gone, and I hope those that went enjoyed their time there. It was something different to do for a little while.
The fair will never be the same as when we were young. I grew up when the West TN State Fair in Jackson was a big deal. The midway was very long and filled with various rides and games along with different foods to eat. Lots of people loved to eat at the 4-H Chicken Shack. The multicolored lights and all the sights were so exciting! Now, most seem like carnivals, but to the younger people or little ones, it continues to be something to enjoy and have good memories. As we grow up, things appear different to us, but the younger ones will have their own memories. I hope that, if the fair comes back next year, others will attend and possibly volunteer to help or have ideas to help it be bigger and better next year.
Halloween will be here again Friday, Oct. 31. I hope the kids have fun and enjoy the candy. I remember being little and going to houses for treats. We had rubber masks to wear. Man, those things sure got hot! Our parents would check out the candy, and then we poured it out onto the floor to look for our favorite pieces. Things were so different back then. No worries over possible drugs or other things in candy to hurt a child. Now, unfortunately, it is not only that but possible violence. I am thankful it seems to have been quiet on Halloween the last several years. It is not my favorite holiday, and I do not decorate or acknowledge it any more as our son is grown and so are grandkids, but I still have a great-granddaughter to watch grow up and enjoy the new things for her. Stay safe and enjoy!
Condolences to all who have lost loved ones. I wish I could take the pain away. I truly do, but I know that God has His reasons and purposes for everything. I have been living by this standard for almost 28 years since we lost our 14-year-old son. Yes, sadly, I do know pain, sadness, loneliness and loss to name a few. I also know that God has carried me all the way! It never goes away, but I am very thankful for everyday of life and the family I have left. My email is at the end of this article, and if I can help by even giving an ear to you who are grieving, I will. I am not a professional in the field, but I do care and know grief from my perspective. God bless you all.
Happy birthday to Jacob Barham, 10-27; Chandler Hinson, 10-30; and Charles Dyer, 11-2.
Prayer requests for Rachel Ellington, Vickie Ellis, Joie Freeman, Carolyn Goff, Darren Hatch, LaDawn Hayes, Danny Hodges, Eva and Alvin Jones, Don McLemore, Doris McKinney, Jim and Sue Newsom, Julia Parchman, Beth Plunk, Pam Priddy and Milton and Cheryl Tobey and Charles Wray. When Grief Hits in Public: Sometimes it’s the smell of a candle, the sound of a song, or a glimpse of something they used to love- and suddenly, you can’t breathe. If you’ve ever had to fight back tears in the middle of the store or excuse yourself quietly from a crowded room...you’re not alone. Grief doesn’t wait for privacy. It’s not weakness-it’s love overflowing. Breathe. Step away if you can. Be kind to yourself. Your tears are holy. Your story matters. Even here, even now-you are not alone.
I pray you all have a wonderful week and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings. Remember: if you have news, please email me at mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news. People from here and those who have moved from our area but still want to keep in touch through the newspaper are hungry for news from home.
Until next week, Happy Trails to You.
