Hello to all from this little corner of the world. Wednesday was an absolutely gorgeous day. The temperature was 86, and there was a slight breeze blowing; the skies were an azure blue, and the clouds were puffy white.
Our yard is mowed once again and looks so pretty. I think James and I see who can get on our mower first. I like to mow and was raised that way as I have stated before. I guess James wants to do what he can so I will not have to. It has always been this way for us. If I planted flowers, he was right beside me on the ground. When I did not work for a few years, I can remember starting my housework after the kids were off to school. I could clean our large house (three baths and everything!), mow the yard and cook supper in a day. Wow, I must have had a fever. Why did I think I had to do so much in one day? I guess so I could play the rest of the week.
My mother did not work outside the home until I was in the 10th grade. Boy, we had a clean home. She would put wax paste on the wood floors and was fortunate enough to have a buffer. I remember her vacuuming the living room furniture and flipping cushions. We took our shoes off in the house and never washed our hands or hair in the kitchen sink. She hand-washed the kitchen towels and cloths, soaked them in some bleach and then dried them somehow as we did not have a dryer yet. She was a great cook and so was my daddy. My favorite thing mother made was caramel and chocolate pies and spaghetti. Daddy’s meatloaf was fantastic! We also occasionally had a treat on Saturdays - homemade pancakes. Daddy made wonderful pancakes.
Now, there was a breakfast I could not stand, and it was (do not gag), brains and eggs. Yes, you read that right - pork brains and eggs. They used to buy them in the store, but I do not know now. I did eventually acquire a taste for them but not often. It was eat a bite of it and a biscuit, hold your breath, chew, swallow and drink milk, and can you believe we lived in the city? Ah, memories…some sweet, some not.
I was not able to address our Sunday morning sermon this week due to an early deadline. Ephesians 1:1-23 is wonderful, as is every word of the Bible, but this would be a good one to read before my next writing.
Monday, Sept. 4, was Labor Day. I hope you enjoyed your three day weekend if you were fortunate enough to get it.
