After 28 years in education and coaching, Brian Reid is looking forward to his next challenge as the new head boys basketball coach at Chester County High School.
Reid comes to Chester County after three seasons at Riverside High School. Before that, he spent 16 years at Savannah Christian Academy, where he helped build the school’s athletic program while coaching both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams. During his career, he has also served as a teacher, athletic director, dean of students and head of school, winning more than 500 basketball games along the way. “Chester County has the reputation of being a great school to be a part of,” Reid said. “I’ve seen their athletic teams compete over the years and wanted an opportunity to be a part of what is going on in the district. I’m looking forward to building on what has been accomplished here and setting new standards as we move forward.”
At last week’s meet-and-greet with players and parents, Reid made it clear that his focus is about more than basketball. He challenged everyone in the program to build something they can look back on with pride and said his goal is to help develop young men both on and off the court.
Reid told those in attendance that his program will be built around three standards: protecting the team, calling people up instead of calling them out and being early. He said those expectations are designed to create trust, accountability and a team-first culture.
On the floor, Eagle fans can expect a team that plays with toughness, discipline, and good decision-making. Reid also wants his teams to play fast and practice with purpose every day.
“I want our players to know that I want the very best for them, on and off the floor,” Reid said. “They will always get my best, and I expect them to do the same.”
As he begins his first season in Chester County, Reid said he hopes to build a program that represents the community well.
“Our goal is to create a group of young men who represent the community well in every aspect,” Reid said. “We want to maintain a program that represents everything good about Chester County.”
