May Primaries conclude, county looks to August elections

Posted

With the conclusion of the primary elections in Chester County last week, the race narrows for some as remaining candidates continue to run in the August 6 general election.
A total of 973 voters went to the polls during primaries, including early elections and May 5 election day, less than 9% of registered voters in Chester County. Early voters tallied 526, 400 voted on election day and 47 voted absentee. Of the total, 853 voted on the Republican ticket, with 120 voting Democratic.
The majority of votes came in as votes of confidence with only two races contested, both on the Republican ticket. Both of these primary races included more than two candidates, in which case the top two candidates per race, per political party, would progress to the general elections. On the ballot for REP County Commissioner in District One, Heather Carter (96 votes) and Bubba Edgin (76 votes) came out ahead, with Dexter Phillips and Lonzo Taylor receiving 49 votes each. In District Four, the Rep County Commission race found Darryl Thompson with 108 votes and Dylan R. Clayton with 98, while Sheila Eckard received 78 votes.
