Late goal not enough in FHU loss

Posted

Despite a late-minute goal the Freed-Hardeman University Lions fell on Saturday to the Bethel University Wildcats 6-1.
The Lions (8-2-1, 0-2-0 MSC) were stunned when the Wildcats lit up the scoreboard at 6:38 with a two-assist goal. Two more goals at 18:59 and 20:12 crossed to give the visitors a 3-0 halftime score. In the first half the Lions got four shots off with the one shot on goal being saved.
Bethel’s (5-0-1, 1-0-0 MSC) Gregory Cousins completed a hat trick in the second half with goals in the 64th and 70th minutes before a final goal crossed in the 84th minute. The Lions would scratch a goal across at 87:53 when Thabo Mahlaha had a long pass the drew Bethel’s keeper away from his net where Martin Theissen dribbled around to net the goal.
Up Next - The Lions will hunt for the first Mid-South Conference victory on the road against the Georgetown College Tigers. Playing first in the October 3 doubleheader, the men will kick off at noon.
