The Chester County Lady Eagles wrapped up a demanding week of basketball, starting with a road matchup at Crockett County on Tuesday before returning home Friday night to host Liberty.
Against Crockett County, the Lady Eagles struggled to settle in offensively in a 51–18 loss. The Lady Cavaliers jumped out to a fast start, leading 22–4 after the opening quarter and building a 34–9 halftime advantage. Kloe Taylor led Chester County with 12 points, followed by Esther Osburn with 5 and Alexis Rivers with 1.
Head coach Lee Pipkin said the team put itself in a tough spot early. “We felt we did not play well,” Pipkin said. “Crockett played a big part in that. We did not handle the pressure well and got into foul trouble early.”
The Lady Eagles responded with a more competitive effort Friday night, despite falling 56–38 to a highly athletic Liberty squad. Chester County led 17–12 after the first quarter before Liberty answered with a strong second period and gradually pulled away. Taylor again paced the Lady Eagles with 18 points, while Leura Rowsey added 6.
Pipkin said the performance showed meaningful progress. “Even though we lost, it was a good loss,” she said. “Our freshmen played really well, and we handled their pressure much better. Liberty is probably the most athletic team we have played, and we hung in the game with them. Our goal is to continuously progress, and we felt we took a big step forward.”
She also praised Rowsey’s poise at point guard. “Leura Rowsey came in and played the majority of the game at point; she did fantastic!” she added.
Chester County will look to build on the positives as it hosts Jackson Christian and Madison Academic this week.
