Hello to my family and friends. For this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it! This is a new week and a new month, a month for new beginnings, new thoughts and a chance to do things better. Most of all, it is a blessing to be with you this week. I pray that you had a wonderful time on Easter Sunday and that you went to the church of your choice. For some people the only time you will see them in church is on Mother’s Day, Christmas and Easter! You know I am so glad they came and will pray that they will come back!
Well, April has arrived, and what does that mean? I would like to share with you some facts about the month of April. April is Alcohol Awareness Month, National Autism Awareness Month, National Minority Health Month and Women’s Eye Health and Safety Month. It is also the National Public Health month and National Infant Immunization month. In other words, it is time for us to make sure we are heathy as we can be and to make sure our loved ones are as well.
Oh yes, and there is Tax Day! As Bishop T. J. Jakes would say, “Get Ready, Get Ready!” Next Wednesday, April 15, is the big day for taxes; it will be a sad day for so many, especially for those who will have to give IRS more of their money! But look on the bright side, the Lord has blessed you to have the funds to give, and if you do not, the Lord will make a way. To everyone that will receive their BIG checks from IRS, please use them wisely and do not forget to put some back for a rainy day. *Editor’s note: The IRS has announced a tax relief extension to May 22, 2026 for Tennessee taxpayers due to Winter Storm Fern. See the related story in this issue of the Independent for more information.
To the Chester County Chamber of Commerce, the City of Henderson would like to say THANK YOU for sponsoring the Candidate Forum on Thursday night April 2! It was awesome. If you did not attend, you missed a great forum! Each of the candidates had three minutes to tell the people why they are running and how they will help to represent our county! Remember that Early Voting will be April 15-30.
A BIG shout out to the staff at Southern Oaks and Henderson Health and Rehabilitation Center! Thank you for all you do for our loved ones in the facility where you work. The residents are in a good and safe place. Why? Because you work there!
On the prayer list this week, please continue to pray for Glen Swafford and his wife. He is out of the hospital but keep praying for his breathing to get better. The reason I am asking you to pray for his wife is that when you are a caregiver your body gets tired and weak as well. Also, continue to pray for Mr. and Mrs. Lofton. As you may know, Mr. Lofton is still in the Nursing Home. Ms. Amie Croom is doing very well! To God be the Glory! She rang the BELL! Keep our United States in your prayers. Remember to pray for the sick and shut in, our children, teachers, families, the men and women that are serving our country and the incarcerated.
We would like to say Happy Birthday to you if today is your birthday! May the Lord bless you on your special day!
Thought for today: Cry when you are sad. Cry when you are happy. Cry when you are angry. Let’s dare to tell the story of our lives through our tears, and remember that God, the Author of life is treasuring each one!
