Hello to my family and friends. For this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it! This is a new month and a new week, another week for new beginnings, new thoughts and a chance to do things better.
Well, Spring is coming, and so is Daylight Savings Time. We have this week to enjoy before we spring forward. Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday, March 8, so before you go to sleep on Saturday, set your clock one hour forward. I can remember back in the day when we had to wind up our clocks. My grandparents would say, “Don’t wind it too tight and break the spring because I cannot afford to get another one!” Now, we live in a time when most devices will change the time for you!
The month of March has arrived, and what does it bring? Read Across America, Women’s History Month, National Nutrition Month, American Red Cross Month and Fire Prevention Month. Last month was Black History Month, and March is Women’s History Month, and I am so proud to be a black woman that can celebrate both months with experience! The 2026 theme for Women’s History Month, chosen by the National Women’s History Alliance, is “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future.” This theme highlights the critical role women play in addressing global challenges and designing solutions that promote sustainability across environmental, economic, educational and social justice sectors. It emphasizes women’s leadership in creating systems that are equitable, resilient and inclusive. Women’s History Month is observed throughout March, coinciding with International Women’s Day on March 8.
Shout out to a few noble women here in Chester County that influenced my life: Mrs. Annie Clay Brown, my mother, my high school teacher by the name of Mrs. West, my first grade teacher Mrs. Mary Brook Trice and my grandmother Mrs. Zelma Bass! They all have gone to paradise. They helped me to be the women I am today, and I am grateful! For next week please send me the names of women that have had an impact in your life.
March 2 was Dr. Seuss’ birthday (Read Across America Day). The purpose of Read Across America Day is to promote the joy of reading, especially among children. Celebrated in honor of the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel, famously known as Dr. Seuss, the day is filled with reading events, character dress-ups and a shared appreciation for the iconic stories that have charmed generations.
Chester County Head Start would like to say thank you to Mr. Mack Florida for volunteering to read a Dr. Seuss book to the children and also thank you to the Police Department, Chamber of Commerce, Carl Perkins Center, Health Department, The Chester County Liberian, The County Mayor and City Mayor for taking time out of their busy schedules to volunteer to read a Dr. Seuss book to the children!
Head Start is a wonderful place for children! Pre-Registration will be March 18 and 19. If you have a child age three or four years old, please contact Mrs. Susan Strickland, Family Advocate, at 989-5192 at the center or her cell 608-9049 for more information.
Our dear friend Pastor Vennie Anthony Reeves’ service is at 11 a.m. March 7 at Estes Church of Christ, 3505 US-45, Henderson. Visitation starts at 10 a.m. We will miss that big smile and his encouraging words. The City of Henderson is praying for the family!
This week, we have several birthdays. Let us start with my baby brother Dennis Brown on March 2. I was 10 years old when he was born, and I love him so much! The best and only Chester County Trustee Lance Beshires celebrates on March 6. I love him like a brother as well! Matilda Massengill, the one and only best community helper in Lucyville, has her birthday on March 7, and Chastity Reeves will celebrate on March 8. I remember her as one of the best teachers at Head Star, and if I am not mistaken, she is working for the school system, and I love them as well! To all of you that work so hard here in our City of Henderson, we would like to wish you a Happy Birthday. May the Lord bless you with many more. Since your birthday is in March, your Birthstone is aquamarine and bloodstone. The March flower is the daffodil. Happy Birthday! I pray it will be a blessed day for you!
You know one of my favorite sayings is “Keep the honey in the moon.” Mr. John and Mrs. Linda Curry recently celebrated 49 years of marriage on Feb. 22, and Mr. John and Mrs. Lillia Cawthon celebrated 62 years of marriage also on Feb. 22. It is a blessing to know that there are still examples of true love in a marriage! You know true love in marriage is a deep, selfless and enduring bond characterized by mutual respect, trust, acceptance and commitment! We pray you had a wonderful anniversary! May the Lord bless them with many more years together! Congratulations and happy anniversary from the city of Henderson.
On our prayer list this week is our country, our children, our teachers and our families, the sick and shut in and especially our men and women that are serving our country.
Remember to patronize with our local businesses here in town; let us try to support our own as much as we can. If you live in the City of Henderson and have news about your family, birthday, anniversary, announcements, and things happening in the City, I need to hear from you. Text me at 608-6132 or call and leave your message.
Thought for the week: God is never early; He is never late; He is always right on TIME!
HAVE A GREAT WEEK! LOVE YOU!
