Hello to everyone! It is great to be with you in the last week of November. For this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it! In everything give thanks. For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. I hope each and every one of you had a wonderful week. You know I love this time of year like so many of you do. This is when families come together and have a wonderful, blessed time. On March 19, 2018, the Lord called my mother (Mrs. Annie Clay) home to be with Him. Yes, I miss my mother so much! This year, as I prepare to start cooking for the family on this special occasion, I can still hear my mother’s voice telling me how to make the sweet potato pies. You see – mother did not use measuring cups or measuring spoon. I had to listen and watch her. Everything was by look, taste, smell and feel. For anyone who had eaten some of mother’s food, you know it was soooooooooooo good; every time she cooked, it always tasted the same. My family and I are blessed to have so many great memories!
This year, I will have 24 family members at the house! The family is looking forward to it. This is what mother used to do. Everyone would go to mother’s house for Thanksgiving. I am filling her shoes now. It is a blessing! When we all come together from far and near, we laugh, cry and hug each other. But we do this whenever we see each other, we greet each other with a hug and a kiss! It is a happy time! We have so many great memories!
This is a special time of the year when the U.S.A. can put aside it differences and give thanks for what we do have. YES! I know so many worry about how they are going to get their children something for Christmas. I thank the Lord that I still have my children alive with me during this season of our life. “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” – Philippians 4:6
The city would like to say Happy Birthday to Shalonda Burton on Nov. 25, Eboni Burton on Nov. 25, Shameka Johnson (Southwest HRA Head Start Family Case Manager Coach) on Nov. 26, and my daughter Glorina Holiday Elam on Nov. 29. We pray that you will have many more.
Do not forget the BIG, exciting day on Nov. 29. The Christmas Tree Lighting will be from 5-8 p.m. on the Courthouse lawn. Lots of fun for the kids and local entertainment for everyone! Thursday, Dec. 4, is the date for our 2025 Henderson Christmas Parade, starting at 7 p.m. in downtown Henderson. Please dress warm and be safe! Hope to see you there.
On our prayer list, continue to pray for the Prather family, Wilson family, Long family, Brown family, Bass family and the Croom family. Pray for strength and healing of bodies and broken hearts. Also, remember the loved ones that are in hospitals, that are sick in their homes, the shut-in and our children, teachers and families. Let us not forget about our soldiers. To all our soldiers celebrating Thanksgiving away from home, we do appreciate you. Thank you for your service, and we pray you had a blessed Thanksgiving Day! Let us not forget to pray for OUR UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!

This week, I am going to leave you with what Thanksgiving is: “Thanksgiving is a time of gratitude to God, our Creator and Provider, whose guidance and care go before us...and whose love is with us forever. Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the changes, to remember that we, too, grow and change from one season of life to another. Thanksgiving is a time of changing seasons, when leaves turn golden in Autumn’s wake and apples are crisp in the first chill breezes of fall. Let us remember the true meaning of Thanksgiving. As we see the beauty of Autumn, let us acknowledge the many blessings which are ours...let us think of our families and friends and let us give thanks in our hearts.” – unknown
With that said, I want to say thank you to my community family for reading this column! I love you, and I pray for you daily. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
