Hello to everyone! It is truly a blessing to be with my family and friends one more time. Thank you for taking time to read our hometown paper. For this is the day the Lord has made, let us REJOICE and be GLAD in it!
Before we go any further, I just want to say, “Thank you, Lord, not just for today, but for every day you have allowed us to be here.” Please forgive me for not having my column last week.
Last week was a very special week in the month of November. We honored Veterans around the world. Veterans fought for our freedoms and risked their lives, whether some realized/appreciated it or not. Without the service of Veterans, we would not have the freedoms we have today.
Another reason last week was special was because on Nov. 10 we celebrated the USMC’s birthday! This year marks 250 years of service. Yes, I am a proud Marine who served MY country for 21 years from 1973-1994. I am not the only person in my family who served in the Marines. My husband Pastor Frank Holiday, Sr., USMC/Army retired, and my brothers Mr. Larry (Henry) Brown, USMC, retired, and Mr. Dennis Brown, USMC, all served. And we did not stop with the Marines. I had other siblings to join the ranks – Mr. Dexter Brown, US Army, and my sister Mrs. Audria (Brown) Dunn. My husband and I are proud to say that we have children who have also served – US Airforce, Mrs. Maria Holiday-Chenelo, LT. US Airforce and our son Mr. Frank Holiday, Jr. He is a Captain in the United States Army. Yes, we are PROUD to be Americans to serve for all people in the United States of America!
Last week, I did not get to say this: to my brothers and sisters who are Veterans in the U.S.A./and around the World, THANK YOU for your many sacrifices and for putting your lives in danger to keep our country free. You have our thanks not just on Veterans Day but every day!
As a retired Marine Master Sergeant, to all Marines, Navy and Army, active duty or retired, Happy 250th Birthday! Semper Fidelis! Always faithful!
Thank you, Evie, for such a wonderful article in the Independent about the Veterans Day ceremony on Nov. 11 at the City Hall. Great Job! We appreciate you!
The family of Mr. Franklin Bruce Long is asking for your prayers. He is in Jackson General. I know the Lord has and can work a miracle! Bruce is like a brother to me! He drove for SWHRA Transportation for many years. Marcus, his son, is by his side. So please pray for his son as well.
Our Chester County Bus driver, Mr. Henry Brown, is recovering from his surgery! His wife, Jackie, is taking good care of him! Please pray for the caregivers as well. Pray that the Lord will give them strength and keep them well!
Mrs. Ethel Croom is recovering from her surgery as well. Continue to pray for her. Remember to pray for our United States of America.
The City would like to say Happy Belated Birthday to Amie Croom on 11/7 and Frank Holiday, Jr. on 11/16. We pray the Lord will bless you with many more!
