Hello to everyone! First things first, thank the Lord for allowing us to see another week and other month. September has made its arrival. I pray and hope you had a great week. As we go through this day, let us remember that today is the day that the Lord has made! Let us rejoice and be glad in it!
Please forgive me for not having last week’s column, but I am here this week and have two weeks of news in one. Where should I start? For the Labor Day weekend, we had our Family Reunion, and what a wonderful time we had. All my children came down! My husband and I enjoyed those grandbabies. I had all my family together, sharing good times. I thank the Lord that it was a celebration of life and not a death. My dear mother, Mrs. Annie, told us to keep the reunion going, and that is what we are going to do!
Labor Day weekend has come and gone! I pray that all our loved ones from out of town – and in town – made it back home safely. There were plenty of family reunions. Family is very important! For as long as you are alive, never forget that! I know some of you took out some time to be with your family and friends, and that is a wonderful thing!
Most of you know that I am a retired M.Sgt. from the United States Marine Corps, and I am very proud to be a Marine! I think about all of my military brothers and sisters who have served/are serving in the Marine Corps, Air Force, Army, Navy and Coast Guard so we can enjoy life as such. Take some time out and pray for our military members that are away from their families. Let us not forget our First Responders!
September 11 is this week. Most of us who were around at the time remember where we were and what we were doing on Sept. 11, 2001 when terrorists attacked New York City and Washington, D.C., with hijacked commercial airliners. Thursday, Sept. 11, will mark 24 years. I will always acknowledge 9/11. On Thursday, Sept. 11, I hope you will take time out of your busy schedule to remember those who died, including our first responders, emergency medical services (EMS) personnel, firefighters and police officers. Sometimes, healthcare providers, including physicians and nurses, respond to emergencies and disasters. First responders are a critical component of preparing for, responding to and recovering from a disaster such as 9/11.
I hope you have your American Flag flying half-mast for the 2,996 people who died at the hands of terrorists as well as all others who made the ultimate sacrifice while fighting the war on terrorism since then. I hope that we will not forget about those families that lost a loved one on that day and in the years to follow. Keep those families up in prayer. Let us keep HOPE alive for our America.
Come one! Come all! The Annual Community Stew will be Saturday, Sept. 13, in the community known as Lucyville. They call it the Trice Street Stew. I love the Community Stew because there is so much love and unity in this stew! Not only do we get good stew but it also brings the community together as one. Stop by and have some fun for all ages. To Ms. Darlene Jones, Ms. Matilda Massengill and everyone who is involved, the City of Henderson would like to say THANK YOU for your hard work, time and love!
The month of September is health awareness month. Now, since we have eaten all of that high cholesterol food and enjoyed every bite, call your doctor and make appointment for a checkup because the life you save may be your own.
Let us give a big shoutout to our Chester County Election Commission staff. I do believe we had a part in helping Tennessee to claim a top spot in the Heritage Foundation’s Election Integrity Scorecard. Thank you, Mrs. Kathy and your staff. Keep up the great work!
The City of Henderson would like to say congratulations to the North Henderson Church of Christ! The church has been here for a century! Thank you for your continual service in the community! We pray that the Lord will keep on Blessing you for many more years.
The City of Henderson would like to send out birthday blessings to everyone that had a birthday this week!
On the prayer list this week: Mr. Stanley Croom, Maria Holiday and Dennis Brown; pray for our loved ones that are in the hospitals, for the ones that are sick in their homes, for our children, teachers and families, for the men and women that are serving our country and also for the incarcerated.
Remember to patronize with our local businesses here in town; let us try to support our own as much as we can. I would like to thank the ones that call and email me with your news. Keep it up and send me more!
