Is grief necessary? What about the pain and sadness that goes along with it? Is there any benefit or purpose of sorrow and loss? If yes is the answer to these questions, then can we learn to cope with life’s anxieties and circumstances in life that bring sadness?
Many people have never been taught how to cope with life and are easily overwhelmed. Too often, people seek external substances as coping mechanisms instead of drawing strength from within themselves and from a strong social support around them. We can, in fact, learn to cope with life’s anxieties and circumstances that bring pain, sorrow and separation into our life.
Since we all shall experience grief, it would be better to prepare ourselves and our children and grandchildren by educating them that life comes with successes and failures and separations and losses.
Yes, grief is necessary and valuable. Yes, we should and can learn to cope with life’s stress and sorrows with strength from within and support from without. Learn the facts about grief. Grief is pain of mind that produces symptoms that radiate throughout our being, and we experience the effect physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually. Grief touches all of us regardless of our education, culture, sex or gender. Grief is a unique individual journey just as our life is. Grief is the result of investing in another’s life or an investment in something of value.
Accept the new reality of the separation/loss. Denying only delays healing and may worsen recovery. If you are outwardly expressive then express your grief. If, like me, you are not, then find a healthy outlet to release caged emotions that are inside. Do not walk your journey alone, share it with someone willing to walk with you. More to come…
