Hello from Enville! I hope everyone is having a great week. I think Spring has finally sprung, and we have no more chances of cold weather. We will have Dogwood Winter soon, which occurs mid to late April and is a cool snap coinciding with the flowering of dogwood trees. Then comes Locust Winter in early May. It occurs when white locust tree blossoms appear. That is followed by Blackberry Winter in early to mid-May, an often severe, final frost occurring when blackberries bushes bloom. Whippoorwill Winter will be mid-to-late May, named for the arrival of the whippoorwill birds. A new one to me is Cotton Britches Winter in late May/early June, the last cool snap, named for when people finally put away their warm, heavy clothing. (The Tennessee Historical Society).
Earth Day happens on April 22. It is an annual event to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Common Earth Day activities include planting trees or native flowers, cleaning up local parks, starting a compost bin or switching to reusable items to reduce waste. April 22 is Administrative Professionals Day. It recognizes the work of secretaries, executive assistants and many other professional workers.
Mark your calendars for the Enville Volunteer Fire Department Barbecue on May. They will have barbecue pork, chicken and bologna. Ribs will be sold by pre-order. Contact any department member to place your order. There will also be a bake sale. This will be just in time for your Mother’s Day lunch or dinner. Mom will appreciate that!
