Eagles walk it off against No. 7 South Gibson

Posted

Chester County picked up a big win Friday night, edging South Gibson 6-5 in walk-off fashion at home.
After beating the Hornets 17-6 the night before on the road, the Eagles had to earn this one a little differently. South Gibson, ranked No. 7 in this week’s Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association poll, pushed back late and tied the game in the seventh before Chester County answered in its final at-bat.
With the score knotted at five, Lane Estes came through with the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh to bring home the winning run and send the Eagles off the field with another win over a ranked opponent.
Estes had a big night at the plate, finishing with three hits, including a solo home run in the first inning. He also drove in three runs. Ethan Burks added a hit and two RBIs, while Dayton Lemmings chipped in two hits. Jaden Weaver and Braylin Robison each had a hit and an RBI as the Eagles totaled nine hits on the night.
RJ Patel went the distance on the mound to earn the win. The right-hander struck out eight over seven innings, working through some late trouble to keep Chester County in position to win.
Chester County built an early lead with runs in the first and second innings and stayed in front most of the night before South Gibson rallied late to tie it. The Eagles answered when it mattered most.
With just a week left in the regular season, the Eagles look to be hitting their stride at just the right time.
