Eagles soccer season ends in district tournament loss to Lexington

The Chester County Eagles saw their season come to an end Tuesday evening with a 3-2 loss to Lexington in the District tournament.
After earning a first-round bye by finishing second in the district standings, the Eagles opened tournament play against Lexington in a match that remained close throughout the night.
Chester County struck first when Jonathan Cupples scored on a tap-in off an assist from Linkin Phillips to give the Eagles an early lead. Lexington answered quickly to tie the match before adding another goal late in the first half to take a 2-1 advantage into halftime.
The Eagles controlled possession for much of the second half and continued to pressure Lexington offensively. Lexington added a late goal before Chester County answered with a penalty kick goal from Linkin Phillips with nine minutes remaining after the Eagles were fouled in the box.
Despite a strong push in the closing minutes, Chester County was unable to find the net again.
Phillips finished the match with one goal and one assist, while Cupples added the other goal for the Eagles. Goalkeeper Riley Meek recorded seven saves. Chester County finished the night with 10 shots, including eight shots on goal.
The loss closed the season for a Chester County team that battled throughout the year and earned the No. 2 spot in the district standings entering tournament play.
The Eagles were led by a senior group that included Linkin Phillips, Jonah Smith, Jonah Harrison, Cooper Thompson, Jonathan Cupples, Braelin Robinson and William Heinsohn.
Several Eagles also earned postseason honors for their performances this season. Linkin Phillips was named the District 12 Offensive MVP. Jonah Harrison, Cooper Thompson and Angel Ortega earned All-District honors, while Jonah Smith and Jonathan Cupples were selected to the All-District Tournament Team.
