The City of Henderson Board of Mayor and Aldermen met in regular session Thursday, Jan. 8 at the Henderson City Hall with Alderman Keith Smith absent.
City Mayor Terry Bell announced the community celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, in the council chamber of Henderson City Hall.
Henderson Police Chief Gary Davidson recognized HPD 2025 award recipients at Thursday’s City Board meeting. Pictured are, from left, Chief Davidson, Captain Ron Stewart – Supervisor of the Year, Officer Danielle Cook – Chief’s Award of Excellence and Officer Donald Buffkin – Officer of the Year. Chief Davidson said, “I am so proud of all the officers with the police department, although I want to congratulate these three for all they give to the department each and every day and the work they do. We are blessed to have such dedicated and caring officers in our city.”
Chapter 6, Title 9 of the Municipal Code regulating and permitting Mobile Food Vendors was unanimously approved on the second and final reading. This policy will go into effect February 1, 2026. An informational meeting will be held Thursday, Jan. 22, beginning at 5 p.m., at the City Hall.
In consideration of the residence requirements for department heads and full-time firefighters, the Board unanimously opted to amend Municipal Code Title 4, Chapter 2, Section 4-205 in its first reading, to specify a 15-mile radius of City Hall or within Chester County, within one year of employment, for all full-time city employees, including department heads and city firefighters.
The board gave approval to move forward with purchase of a gate operator for the Utility operations building on Record Drive, accepted the low bid of $4,108 for fence repairs at the impound lot and approved replacement of 34 thermal insulated windows for the fire department at a cost of $5,110.90.
Mayor Terry Bell suggested Board look at accruement of vacation time for new employees. At it currently stands, a new employee does not receive vacation time for the first year of hire.
Chief Davidson suggested a revision of the sick leave policy given the current shift length for some.
Other discussions included the Utility Director job description with updates, false call costs for the fire department, emergency operations for traffic signals, regular training requirements for Aldermen, plans to review complete Municipal Code, a beautification committee and upcoming celebrations of 250 years for the United States of America.
