Hello to everyone! I hope you had a great week. For this is the day the Lord has made be happy, enjoy it. Well, another month has come and gone, ending with fall celebrations like Halloween and Harvest Day. People are getting ready to complete the annual ritual of “falling back” as we move away from Daylight Savings Time this weekend. Daylight Savings Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, which means you will need to turn your clocks back an hour before you go to bed on Saturday night, Nov 5. Have you ever wondered why 2 a.m.? According to Live Science, the 2 a.m. time was selected because it was deemed to be the least disruptive to most people’s lives. Almost everyone is at home asleep; bars and restaurants have likely closed; and few businesses are impacted by the extra hour. You know that was the life style back in the 1900’s! I personally wish it would stay the same all year round!
November is also American Diabetes Month and National Adoption Month. Nov. 11 is Veterans Day, and on Thursday, Nov 25, we will celebrate Thanksgiving. This is time when family, friends and loved ones can come together and give thanks for each other along with a good meal.
At this time, I need to say thank you to my dear sweet husband, Mr. Frank Holiday. On Oct. 26, he had balloons and flowers waiting for me at home, and you know he is one of the BEST chefs there is. He cooked a fantastic meal. I love his cooking! I received so many texts, Facebook messages, phone calls, cards and gifts. It was a blessing! Thank you to everyone that remembered me on my birthday. The only sad part of it was that I did not have my twin, my aunt Georgia, with me to celebrate together; we always talked with each other and celebrated our day! Aunt Georgia Bass would had been 89 years young. I miss and love her so much, but the memories are great! That is a blessing to have so many great memories.
On Nov. 5, there will be a Benefit Program honoring Ms. Bobbie McCann from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at 420 Fourth St., Henderson. There will be a cakewalk for $5 and hamburgers, chips and drink for $7, or you may have a taste of a good old juicy hotdog, chips and drink for $5. For more information, contact Denise Grimes, (731)343-2285, or Jackie Brown, (731)608-1542. Please keep Ms. McCann in your prayers and ask that the Lord will heal her!
To the family of Mr. Frank Johnson - his wife Mrs. Johnson, Minister Danny Johnson, Mr. Freddie Johnson, Mrs. Kim Johnson-Phelps and the entire Johnson Family - the City of Henderson would like to extend our condolences to you all. I can remember when Mr. Johnson came and helped my husband on a project, and showed him how to cut a hole in a wall. Mr. Johnson was so easy-going and a very good carpenter. He was a good neighbor; he was considerate, kind and understanding of others. He helped to build a successful community, and his children are an example. We pray you all find strength and comfort as you mourn the loss of your beloved, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. We will miss him, but he will not be forgotten. To God be the Glory!
Do not forget the Veterans Day Program honoring all who served! The program will start at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 in the Council Chambers, located at the second floor of the City Hall. Keynote speaker is Bob Hendry, Marine Corps Veteran. Music by Ms. Lakelin Lemmings. Sponsored by Chest County American Legion Davidson-Haltom Post 157 of Henderson. I hope you will attend. This year as a retired Master Sergeant (E-8) of the Marine Corps; my husband will not be able to attend. We will be out of town. I know the program will be very good! Enjoy your Holiday! “Always Faithful,” Semper Fidelis Marine Corps motto!
Remember to pray for our loved ones who are in the hospitals, for the ones who are sick in their homes, for our children, teachers and families and for the men and women who are serving our country.
