The regular meeting of the Mayor and Alderman of the City of Henderson occurred on Tuesday, April 21 at 7 P.M. in the council chamber of city hall. All members except Jason Rhodes were present at this meeting.
There was a consideration to purchase new rifles for the city Police Department. The department is looking to replace 12 patrol rifles for about $36,012. Police Chief Gary Davidson told how the rifles currently being used are worn down and have become dangerous to operate, and the purchase of new rifles would not only protect the police force, but the community they serve. This purchase was approved.
They then went over quotes received for the purchase of new turbidity meters for the water plant and an aerator for the north lagoon. The current turbidity meters have had issues for some time, and they need to be replaced for safety. The quote taken by the Utility Department for this meter was around $31,670. The Utility department made the decision to only purchase one aerator, to be within budget, for the north lagoon for around $14,900. The aerator would have a 10-12 week lead time to hopefully be fully installed by Summer. Both of these purchases were approved.
Next, there was discussion over purchasing two event tents for the city. The purchase of this equipment would run about $6,000. These tents could be used at a number of city events such as the BBQ festival, fair and even FHU homecoming. The board was optimistic that these tents would be put to use if purchased and considered putting the city logo on them once acquired. This purchase was approved.
The Utility Department of Henderson came with the consideration of purchasing natural gas pipe supplies and a trailer for the department. In order to replace old pipelines throughout the city, the Utility Department needs to purchase 10,000 ft of 2-inch pipe and 10,000 ft of 10-gage tracer wire. This will cost $15,000. They were also looking to replace an old trailer in order to better store equipment in while doing repairs. This trailer would be bought in-city and would run about $7,500. Both items were within the department’s budget and were approved by the board
Alderman Michael Phelps thanked the department heads present for all that they do for this community and encouraged them to remember to appreciate those who are under them as parting words.
In other news, the City Utility Budget meeting will continue at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, in Henderson City Hall conference room No. 3.
