The City Board met on Thursday, Feb. 12. All members were in attendance.
Matt Wood of the ATA presented a report on the June 30, 2025, City and Utility Department Audit Report. All standards were clean in the report. In good news from the report, the city has only four years of long-term debt, with a total of $ 413,000 that was paid off last year.
The County Trustee’s office asked for permission to use a city property to offer drive-thru tax payments while ice storm damage to the Trustee’s office building is being repaired. The proposed timeline for this offering would be for the remainder of February into possibly April. The board decided to allow this until Apr 30, when they will reevaluate the situation. Costs accrued by this endeavor would be the responsibility of the county.
The next section of business was a consideration of an ordinance on the final reading amending Title 4, Chapter 2, Section 4-205 of the Municipal Code, changing the “Residence Requirements” for Department Heads and Full-Time Firemen. This requires all employees of the fire department to live within a 15-mile radius of city hall or Chester County within one year of employment. Part-time employees would be on a case-by-case basis. This ordinance was approved. The board also considered adoption of a revised resolution pertaining to False Fire Call fees. This would raise fees for false fire calls in an effort to encourage the upkeep on fire detection equipment or repair faulty equipment. The increased fees would only apply to the second and following false calls. The resolution was approved by the board.
Mid-South Youth Camp’s request for a sewer expansion was discussed. There are about 700 feet that need to be built in order to service the growing needs of the camp. The camp asked the city to depreciate the expenses of this for as many years as possible in order to raise the funds. The Board suggested the annexation of the half of the camp that remains outside the city, and the camp was willing to discuss this idea. Both the Board and the camp were highly interested in making this work and decided to look into it for further meetings.
The Board considered bids for the mowing of the City Cemeteries. They decided to accept the bid of Jaden Couples, the person who had held the mowing position for the past two years.
Finally, a city budget meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. March 19.
