The Chester County Retired Teachers met Wednesday, Dec. 13, in the Hope Barber Shull Library at Freed-Hardeman University.
The meeting was called to order by President Martha Lewis. President Lewis welcomed members, guests, and FHU President David Shannon. The university was thanked for sponsoring our meal.
The prayer for our meal was led by Billy Smith, Ann Phillips led the pledge to the flag and Marti McDaniel gave the Thought for the Day.
After a delicious meal, President Shannon thanked the group for their commitment to education and their positive impact in the community. He gave updates on current projects underway on campus. Of special note: Freed Hardeman was named the “Safest University or College Campus” in Tennessee and #22 nationally. What a tremendous honor for the university as well as the community.
Next, President Lewis introduced our program guest: Mr. Blake Hopper, Director of the Henderson/Chester County Chamber of Commerce. Blake is a talented singer, entertainer, and banjo player. He entertained the group with several wonderful songs and stories. Then Blake brought up Mr. Jerry Lowe, another talented musician. The men played a wonderful rendition of “Foggy Mountain Breakdown.” The program was enjoyed by all!
President Lewis introduced two special ladies, Mrs. Kay Ivy and Mrs. Cherrie Pipkin, to present a loving tribute to the late Linda Patterson. Linda was a long time educator and member of CCRTA for many years and had made a huge impact to all who knew her. Linda was small in stature but big in presence. She will be greatly missed by all. Guests of Linda’s were recognized and thanked for coming.
Door prizes were awarded. The next meeting will be March 20, 2024 at Snookum’s Restaurant.
The meeting was adjourned.
