The Chester County Board of Education met in regular session at 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the Board of Education conference room with all members present.
Local parent Aaron Hamilton addressed the Board with concerns about the school bus schedule. Hamilton said his child has ridden the bus during the past two years and has typically been dropped off at after school care at 3:30 p.m. The child has ridden the bus once earlier this school year and was dropped off at 5:15. Hamilton added that the bus is typically now running around 4:45 at his child’s after school, potentially due to running two routes.
School Administrator Troy Kilzer II responded that transportation has been difficult due to availability of bus drivers. Ecco Ride – the school system’s transportation service – originally wanted to drop off children at their homes only – this has been adjusted to have a secondary drop off location. “Echo Ride has been very good to work with us,” Kilzer said. “Hopefully, it will continue to improve,” he said, adding that he will speak with the company to see if it might be possible to reduce the time even more.
Chairman Shane Connor agreed that it is a concern and encouraged those interested in driving a bus to apply.
The recommendation to authorize the second submission of the 2026-2027 School District Fundraisers was approved unanimously. This list is available on page 10-A of this week’s Chester County Independent.
The spotlight/celebration portion of the evening recognized the service of Chairman Shane Connor as he steps down from his post. His vacancy is expected to be filled in September. Connor first took his place on the school board in 2014, replacing Dr. Sam Jones, according to former board member Bob Moore. Moore said, “Today, we honor him for his years of service for the Children of Chester County and serving as a board member.” Connor remarked, “When you come on in the eyes of serving kids and teachers and not the eyes of being the politician, it changes your perspective and it serves us well, and I appreciate all those who came before me and all those who will come after.”
The next School Board meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at West Chester Elementary.
