The Chester County Board of Education met Tuesday, Mar 17, in the Chester County Board of Education conference room. All members of the board were present.
Spotlight was given to Chester County Middle School’s fifth and sixth grades. The fifth-grade students are being given the opportunity to go on a field trip to Nashville later in the school year. For some children, they have never had the opportunity to take a trip like this, and it is great that so many get to experience this. Also, Whitney King led a group of sixth graders to help out at Pinson Mounds. They assisted in cleaning around the mounds and had the opportunity to visit the museum afterwards.
The first item on the agenda was a resolution to the Tennessee General Assembly supporting the continued appointment of the Superintendent of Schools. A bill proposing that, instead of appointing the Superintendent, there should be an election open to the public. Concerns were raised over the potential for someone with no experience in schools to be elected to this position. The board unanimously agreed to support the continued appointment of the Superintendent of Schools.
Next, a policy revision was approved. This was CCBOE Policy 2.804, “Expenses and Reimbursements.” In order to ensure receipts are turned in a timely manner, the previous 30-day limit has been shortened to 10 days. Even though the limit is 10 days, those dealing with these expenses and reimbursements are encouraged to get their receipts in as soon as possible.
Several vehicles and pieces of equipment were approved to be considered surplus property and are able to be auctioned off.
The Chester County Board of Education has joined the PCA, purchasing a cooperative agreement. This makes large equipment purchases for the school system quicker and easier. There will also be a quicker return on these purchases.
The Chester County Board of Education TSBA training event is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, Mar 30-31, at the Pickwick Lodge.
The next Board meeting will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Apr 21, at the Chester County Board of Education conference room.
