Two Chester County Dixie Softball teams are headed to the World Series following their victories in state tournaments last week.
At Dickson, Chester County Dixie Belles, girls ages 13-15, defeated Fairview 11-1 to win the Dixie Belles state tournament on July 15. They are now headed to the World Series in Alexandria, La., which begins this weekend.
After a slim 8-7 victory over Madison Central in its first contest, Chester County smashed its way through the tournament winning games by scores of 13-0, 21-3, 12-1 and 11-1 in the championship game. CC also proudly claimed the tournament’s Sportsmanship Trophy. Team members include Mykayla Martin, Annabelle Lockridge, Jena Melton, Blakely Wilson, Maddie Burton, Ivy Knight, Jacelyn Hoskins, Autumn Smith, Brooklyn Butler, Lexi Harwell, Charlotte Canaday and Lana Rowland. Coaches are Casey Martin, Jason Lockridge and Mike Melton.
At Waynesboro, Chester County Dixie Darlings, girls’ softball coach-pitch age 7-8, advanced to the Dixie World Series in Eufaula, Ala., beginning this weekend. The Darlings defeated Collinwood in a spine-tingling state championship game 4-3. Team members include: Brooklyn Goff, Makinley Christy, Chara Dalton, Eppie Rowsey, Madyn Leath, Milly Knipper, Josslyn Hensley, Avery Cooper, Brynli Young, Erby Anne Murphy, Addie Jones and Lizzie Patterson. Coaches are Andy Rowsey, Darian Leath, Matt Knipper and Jera Fawcett.
Chester County, soon to be called Tennessee at the World Series, opens Series play Saturday. Darlings team members include: Karleigh Beth White, Laura Rowsey, Emma Easley, Makenah Carnell, Tambrei Carnell, Oliva Paton, Bethann Burgess, Tayte Whitman, Shelbie Cross, Natalie Hurst, Maryissa Burton and Izzy Knipper. Coaches are Greg Burgess, Scott Easley, Adam Cross and Reggie Patterson.
Another Chester County softball coach-pitch team, the Dixie Sweetees made it all the way to the state championship game before succumbing to Wayne County in the title game. They had wins over East Hickman, Fairview and East Hickman again.
Another Chester County team, the Dixie Boys age 15 baseball squad recently won the state championship to earn a place in the World Series last weekend. However, circumstance prevented the team from making the trip, thus ending their season.
