The Chester County Dixie Belles, girls’ softball, age 13-15, claimed another state championship Sunday, defeating Fairview 11-1 in the title game at Dickson. They now advance to the Dixie Softball World Series July 26, in Alexandria, La.
CC also was awarded the Sportsmanship Trophy. Chester won its first four games with victories over Madison Central, 8-7, Collinwood, 13-0, East Hickman, 21-3 and Madison Central again, 12-1 to set up the climactic contest with Fairview.
Rains from the remnants of Hurricane Barry have delayed two other state tournaments involving local teams.
At McEwen, the age 5-6 coach-pitch Sweetees team defeated Fairview 23-19 in their opening contest Friday, before out-scoring East Hickman 24-23. That set them up with Wayne County in the “undefeated” game. No information available on further play.
At Waynesboro, Chester County Darlings are competing in the state tournament and performing amazingly. CC opened the event with an extra-inning affair, winning 9-8 over Collinwood. The next contest was not nearly as nail-biting, a 20-1 victory over Houston County.
CC Debs edged in semi-finals
Chester County fell 3-2 to McEwen Sunday morning in the semi-finals of the Dixie Debs girls’ softball state tournament at Henderson. The rain-plagued tournament concluded later Sunday with Wayne County beating McEwen for the title. McEwen earned the Sportsmanship Trophy.
CC lost its first encounter Friday to Wayne County 5-2, before blasting Halls 12-0 Saturday morning.
Baseball in state
At Sweetwater, the local AAA division age 9-10 baseball team played in the state tournament, losing its first contest Thursday to Summertown. However, they bounced back to beat Springfield Friday and East Robertson Saturday morning, before being eliminated by Savannah Saturday night.
At Fairview, the local Dixie Youth Ozone team, ages 11-12, fell Friday to Lebanon, followed Saturday morning with a loss to Ashland City.
At Dyersburg, the Chester County age 14 and under Dixie Boys team had one victory in three tries in the state tournament. CC won out over Adamsville 14-10 Saturday, sandwiched between setbacks to Dyersburg 15-5 on Friday and Halls 9-4 late Saturday.
Dixie Boys are World Series bound Thursday
Chester County’s Dixie Boys baseball team, ages 15 and under, heads out this week to the World Series 18-21, Sterlington, La. CC marched through the state tournament undefeated and mostly unchallenged.
Team members are Kallen Emison, Ty Maness, Caden Davis, Kobe Huffman, Blake Snyder, Thomas Williams, Turner Murchison, Josh Burns, Dilynn Smith, Tristin Roberts, Landan Dove and Colby King. Coaches are Richard Emison, Mike Maness, Dane Burns.
