The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions Basketball team opened defense of their 2018 National Championship with a 73-39 victory over Blue Mountain College Thursday at the Brewer Sports Center.

Haylee Croom led the Lady Lions on the attack with 18 points, as she shot seven-for-eight from the field and four-for-four from the charity stripe. Sandrea Sylman followed close behind with 16 points while freshman Chynia Brooks also reached double digits with 14 points.

Marlee Hatcher paced the Toppers (0-1), as she put up 11 points.

FHU forced an impressive 33 turnovers while committing just 15 of their own.

The Lady Lions are back in action at 2 p.m. Saturday at home as FHU celebrates Homecoming.
