The Freed-Hardeman University Lions basketball team opened the 2018-19 season Thursday night and suffered a 101-85 loss to Blue Mountain College at home in the Brewer Sports Center.
The Lions (0-1) received solid contribution from Junior transfer Bryan Mitchell who ended the night with 27 points to lead all scorers in the game. Mitchell shot an impressive 11-for-18 from the field and four-for-nine from behind the arc. James Davis followed close behind with 20 points and a pair of three-pointers.
Three other players reached double digits for the Lions, as John Musselwhite fired in 13 points while Silas Clark and Juwan Hampton chipped in 11 points each in the loss.
Tyree Beason led Blue Mountain (1-0) on the offensive end with 26 points after shooting an impressive 7-for-11 from behind the field. Jonah Simpson followed close behind with 18 points while Lukas Durasas rounded out the scoring for the Toppers with 17 points.
