The Chester County Cross Country boys’ team competed in the TSSAA Division I Large School State Championship Race at Percy Warner Park on Saturday. Evan Allen placed seventh out of 202 runners with a time of 15:56. Gideon McManus finished with a time of 17:55, Tucker Allen 18:51, Carter Welch 19:34, Josh Puente 22:12, Pearce Walker 22:19 and Dylan Coates 22:42.
In terms of those competing from Chester County’s region (not the overall race), Evan Allen was first, McManus was second, Tucker Allen fourth and Welch 10th. The rest of the boys’ team and the girls cheered them on and supported their teammates whole heartedly.
“I am so very pleased with the team this season; I can not start to describe their dedication to this sport. I give them a place to run, yell a little (maybe a lot), get them where they need to go and they do the rest. I’ve learned so much from them this year,” said CCHS cross country coach Stephanie Hatch. “Thank you to our students, teachers and staff for our wonderful send off. Thank you to Mr. Shumate for supporting the team and me this season. Thank you to Coach Murley and family, Mr. Swain, and Ms. Montgomery and family for coming to see the boys run. Thank you to the
little ones from Mrs. Becky’s class at East Chester for making posters for us and cheering us on as we left town, thank you to Wes Murphy and Marilyn Davis for their support from Chester County Junior High.”
Hatch also thanked those that watched the live video feed, as well as those sending sweet words of encouragement and congratulations. “Thanks to those of you that had a part in allowing us to go and making arrangements to go to the state meet; they all enjoyed the experience and represented Chester County well. As I thanked the manager at the restaurant on Friday night, she responded with, ‘They were one of the best groups of young people we’ve ever had,’ Win or not, I’ve always been proud of our runners. I am blessed to be their coach,” Hatch concluded.
