Congratulations to Chad & Beth Cothren on the birth of daughter number two. Kaylee Beth Cothren was born July 25, 2019. She weighed seven pounds, nine ounces, and was 19 and 3/4 inches long. Proud grandparents are Mike & Rita Cothren and Paul & Anita Hanley. She came home from the hospital in a 1972 Nova, the same that her big sister Brooklyn also came home in. This car has a bit of history!
Matthew & Brittany Guinn are anxiously awaiting the birth of their first child. This will be Jerry and Christy Newsome’s third grandchild. Minnie Franklin, Brittany’s grandmother, who is 92 years old is anxious also, as this will be her first great-great-grandchild.
Congratulations to Will Smith and Morgan Pickett, who were married Monday, July 22, 2019 in Jackson. Morgan is the daughter of Gary and Pam Pickett of Sweetlips and the mother of Daniel. Will is the son of Bill and Peggy Smith of Medon and the father of Hudson. Following the wedding, a reception was held at the home of Gary and Pam Pickett. There were approximately 30 family and friends who attended.
Frances Willis belongs to a club called Sharing Hearts (FCE). She made an activity lap quilt for Alzheimer’s patients and won first place. She also crocheted a top and won second place. She also won second place for a Christmas lap quilt. These were all local, but she will enter them in district competition.
Hopewell Baptist Church will be holding revival services beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, and 7 p.m. nightly Monday, Aug. 5, through Friday, Aug. 9. There will be a different speaker each evening. Everyone is welcome to come join us.
A launch party was hosted by Painting with a Twist for Brenda (Dianne) Williams on July 17 in her hometown of Dickson. There was a book signing for her third published book, Protecting a Witness, the third book in the Southern Railway series. There were many walks down memory lane, as she was greeted by classmates from her graduating class of 1971. There were approximately 22 in attendance. Dianne’s mother Minnie Franklin, 92, was there to lend her support. She had a big smile on her face, and you could see the pride for her daughter’s accomplishments in her eyes. Her sisters, Linda and Shelia, and niece, Dani, who just got out of the hospital that morning, were there for moral support. It seems it was a success!
My niece Melissa and family were here for a short time, visiting from Downers Grove, Ill. I have never made so much sweet tea in such a short time. They were also pretty happy about gravy and biscuits!
Happy Birthday to Brooklyn Cothren, who celebrated her birthday with family and friends at her home July 15.
On our prayer list: Russell Kinchen, Barbara Piechocki, Dude and Mike Russell, Emma Ross, Angie Hudgins, Loretta Pickett, Stacey Russell, Lou Williams, Wanda (Brittan) Pickett, our soldiers and their families, our children as they begin a new school year, our teachers, country and each other.
Have a great week, everyone!
Food for Thought! Sometimes, if we are busy helping others in need, our problems don’t seem so big.
Thanks to my neighbors who have shared squash and tomatoes with me.
