Hello to everyone! Last week was a wonderful week. I hope yours was the same. If not, just pray. For this is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24).
Remember that Father’s Day is Sunday, June 16. Do something special for him. The word of God says in Ephesians 6:2-3 “Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.”
Enjoy your dad while you can. If only I could hold my daddy’s hand one more time. I am proud to be the oldest daughter of Mr. Parnell Brown. He had six other children, Larry (Henry), Dexter, Danny, Sylvia, Dennis and Audria. The city would like to say, “Have a happy Father’s Day,” to all fathers. Let us not forget our military dads that are not home to celebrate with their family and friends because they are away serving this great country. Thank you for serving and happy Father’s Day. To all of the men out there who have filled the void in a child’s heart because their dad is not in their life, we THANK you for being there for them. Happy Father’s Day!
Speaking of fathers, there is a young father by the name of Mr. Cecil Croom. He will be 87 years young on June 18. The City would like to say Happy Birthday to Mr. Croom. May the Lord keep on blessing you with many more years.
Congratulations to our new incoming basketball coach, Kody Howard from Dyersburg, TN. We welcome you to our small hometown and to our Chester County School System. We pray your first basketball season will be a safe and good one
On Thursday of last week, I was at Jack’s having breakfast with the VFW Commander Derald Swain, American Legion Commander Christ Dunbar and Brian Hogg and his wife. We were discussing some upcoming event plans for the Post. While I was there, I talked with some very distinguished men; however, there was one very special young man in the group by the name of Billy Schul. He had to be in his early 70’s. He asked me if I knew a man by the name of Mr. Henry Bass? A smile big as the Amazon River came across my face, and I said, ‘Yes! He was my grandfather!” Billy begins to tell me how he worked with my grandfather at one of the lumber companys here in Henderson. I do not remember if it was Simmons or Jones. It was such a pleasure to hear the kind words Billy said about papa (Mr. Henry). He was a hardworking man. If Mr. Henry was alive today, he would have been 105 years old. Jack’s Restaurant does not just have good food; there are a lot of good people that eat there also.
The City would like to say happy birthday to Cecil Ross on June 9; Jacquelyn Brown on June 15; Shirley Wilson on June 16; Zelmar Bass on June 19; and Jerry Wilson on June 20. Happy Birthday to my grandson, LaDerrick Means, who is a part of the joy in my life. He will celebrate his birthday on June 21. May the Lord bless all of you with many more.
On our prayer request list this week: please pray for the President of the U.S.A. that the Lord will help him to make good decisions and continue to pray for the sick and shut in, our children, teachers and family, the men and women who are serving our country and the incarcerated. Remember to patronize with our local businesses here in town; let us try to support our own as much as we can. If you live in the City of Henderson and have news about your family, birthdays, anniversaries, announcements or things happening in the City, I need to HEAR from you. Call me at 989-1907 and leave your message, or you can text at 608-6132. HAVE A GREAT WEEK! HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!
