Brown Bag Book Club Sept. 11

Big Country Breakfast and Bake Sale Sept. 14

Montezuma Community Center will host another BIG Country Breakfast and Bake Sale from 7-10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14. The meal will include sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, homemade biscuits, gravy and drink. The cost is $6 per plate. Come early to get the best selection from the bake sale. This fundraiser is part of why we are able to keep the center open. We appreciate the support we receive from the community. 

Class of 1979 Reunion Sept. 14

The Class of 1979 will hold their 40th Class Reunion at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14,  at Pam Burse’s home in Jackson. Cost is $20 per person. Call 731-616-9673 for more information.

Trice Street Neighborhood Stew Sept. 14

The Annual Trice Street Neighborhood Stew will be Saturday, Sept. 14, at 543 and 563 Trice St. at the homes of Darlene Jones and Matilda Massengill. Bring all donations of meat on Friday, Sept. 13, and all vegetables before 8 a.m. Saturday morning. Fellowship begins around 2 p.m. We will have Bingo and checker games. Feel free to bring your own lawn chairs.

Dodge Ball Tournament Sept. 14

Chester County High School Freshmen Class is sponsoring a DODGE BALL TOURNAMENT at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the  CCHS gym. Teams must consist of six players, and cost is $50 per team.  First place will receive entry fee back plus bragging rights and a “SOON-TO-BE” coveted Dodge Ball trophy.  We want all ages to play, and it will be tournament style double elimination. Pusser Family Reunion Sept. 15

The reunion for the family of Lucy Bell Brooks Jones “Pusser” will be from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, at the Old Friendship Baptist Church fellowship hall, 100 Hunter Lane in Finger. This will be a potluck lunch with drinks provided. There also will be a bouncy house available for children. Please pass the word around and come celebrate with us.

Miss Chester County Barbeque Festival Competition Sept. 15

Republican Meeting Sept. 16

The next quarterly meeting of the Chester County Republican Party is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 16, at 6:30 p.m. at Henderson City Hall upstairs, 121 Crook Avenue in Henderson. All Republicans and conservatives are invited to arrive early to mingle and listen to some inspiring patriotic music. After a (brief) business meeting, the guest speaker will be our own Tennessee state senator Dolores R. Gresham who will speak on various Chester County and GOP issues. Senator Gresham represents District 26 which includes Chester County. At the conclusion of those remarks, a door prize of a beautiful nylon 3’ x 5’ American flag will be awarded to one lucky attendee. Purdy Historical Society Meeting Sept. 17

Shawn Pitts, Hall of Fame coordinator and traditional arts chair for Arts in McNairy, will do a presentation at the  Purdy Historical Society monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Sept. 17. He will be talking about AiM’s work in preserving a collection of Tennessee music boxes, a rare folk instrument indigenous to the counties of the lower Tennessee River Valley. CC Retired Teachers Meeting Sept. 18

Chester County Retired Teachers will meet at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Snookum’s. The sponsor is First Bank. The service project is school supplies. Melinda Parker will give a presentation on the Special Education Program.

Library Card Sign Up Event Sept. 19

The Chester County Library will host a Library Card Sign Up Event from 3-6 p.m. Sept. 19. Children ages five-17 who sign up for their FIRST library card will be entered for a chance to win a $20 Empire Movie Theater gift card. The theme is Toy Story 4!

Elections 101 Sept. 19

Have you ever wondered what happens in the Election Office when there isn’t an election?  Have you considered running for office, but aren’t sure what that involves?  Have you ever listened to the news and wondered if your vote is really secure or could the local elections be hacked?  Have you ever gone to vote and wondered why you had to choose a Republican or Democratic ballot?  Get answers to all this and more by attending Elections 101 Thursday, Sept. 19, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the upstairs classroom of City Hall. To learn more or reserve your spot, call the Chester County Election Office at 989-4039.

Pig Trot 5K Sept. 28

The Pig Trot 5K will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at No Xcuse Fitness, 123 Front St. in Henderson. There will be a 5K and one mile run. Cost is $25 for the 5K and $20 for the one mile. Proceeds benefit Relay for Life. Pick up a form at FirstBank, or register online at racesonline.com. Pre-registration end Sept. 16. (Add $5 after Sept. 16)

New Friendship Community Fall Sale

New Friendship Community Fall Sale will be from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, and from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5. We will have breakfast biscuits with bologna or sausage, and lunch will be chili/hot dogs. There will be arts and crafts, jewelry and gently used merchandise. Vendors will also be outside.  Drive down Hwy. 200 toward Mifflin and turn left at Hilltop Fire Station, and the Community Club will be on your left across from Friendship Church. This fundraiser is part  of the effort of our community to keep the center open. We hope to see many of you there.

Mifflin Day Oct. 5

The Mifflin Day Event is planned for Saturday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Mifflin Store, Hwy. 200 in Mifflin. Anyone wanting to help with the event is welcome. Also, cakes are needed for the cakewalk. Donations are welcome. The Friendship and Glendale Community is especially welcome to help. In case of rain, the event will be held inside the store. Harvest Festival Oct. 5

The Harvest Festival will be at the Milledgeville City Park starting at 11 a.m. Oct. 5. The Yearly Auction will begin at 2 p.m. No admissions will be charged.
