The Chester County Library and the Henderson Dairy Queen have partnered to celebrate the beginning of school and the fun of reading.  Pick up a reading log at the library and read 10 books (or two books that are more than 50 pages). Bring your list back to the library, and you will receive a coupon for a free Blizzard. Pre-K through Kindergarten may have the books read to them. Let’s start the school year right with lots of reading!

Barbeque Festival Vendor Applications

The 42nd Annual Chester County Barbeque Festival committee is now accepting vendor applications for Chester County residents and businesses only at this time. The dates of the festival are Sept. 27 and 28. Please call 989-5222 to request an application. 

Ham Radio Testing Aug. 24

There will be Ham Radio License testing at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Henderson Fire Stations training room, 505 Sanford St. We will be testing for all levels of license and walk-ins are always welcome. If you are upgrading, remember to bring a copy of your license. Everyone will need a photo ID. The current charge for the test is $15. Exact change is appreciated. Ballet Arts Auditions Aug. 24

Ballet Arts, Inc. will hold their annual auditions for Company membership on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 188 Commerce Center Circle. A non-refundable audition fee of $25 is due at the time of auditions. Birth certificates must be presented at time of auditions for all new applicants. This is the only date for auditions. Registration for all dancers begins at 8:30 a.m. Apprentice Membership auditions are 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. Junior and Senior Performing Membership auditions are 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. An informational meeting for parents and dancers will be held at 11 a.m. An apprentice member must be 10 years old, have at least two years of formal ballet training and be dancing at an upper beginner level or intermediate level. Enville Wild Goose Shindig Aug. 24

The Enville Wild Goose Shindig will be from 3-9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the community center. There will be barbecue pork, chicken, bologna, hamburgers and hotdogs, popcorn and ice cream ready to serve at 3 p.m., a silent auction all afternoon, gospel music from 4-5:30 p.m. and a cakewalk at 6 p.m. Country band, Bo Jack and Rockin Country will play from 7-9 p.m. There also will be a 50/50 drawing at 8:30 p.m. Everyone come out and join in on the fun. This event is sponsored by the Enville Community Club and the Enville Volunteer Fire Department.

Davis Reunion Aug. 25

The Davis family reunion will be Sunday, Aug. 25, at the New Friendship Community Center. Doors will open at 11 a.m. Bring your favorite covered dish. We will eat no later than 12:30 p.m.

Henderson Stamping Hiring Event Aug. 29

Cooking Matters for Adults Sept. 5

Cooking Matters for Adults is a four-week program designed to help adults improve their basic cooking skills while also learning how to save money! Walk Across Tennessee is an eight-week fitness program designed to increase the daily physical activity of Tennesseans. Participants can form walking teams or participate on an individual basis. Republican Meeting Sept. 16

The next quarterly meeting of the Chester County Republican Party is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 16, at 6:30 p.m. at Henderson City Hall upstairs, 121 Crook Avenue in Henderson. All Republicans and conservatives are invited to arrive early to mingle and listen to some inspiring patriotic music. After a (brief) business meeting, the guest speaker will be our own Tennessee state senator Delores R. Gresham who will speak on various Chester County and GOP issues. Senator Gresham represents District 26 which includes Chester County. At the conclusion of those remarks, a door prize of a beautiful nylon 3’ x 5’ American flag will be awarded to one lucky attendee. Pig Trot 5K Sept. 28

The Pig Trot 5K will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at No Xcuse Fitness, 123 Front St. in Henderson. There will be a 5K and one mile run. Cost is $25 for the 5K and $20 for the one mile.
