The Henderson Police Department will be participating in the statewide “Click It or Ticket” Campaign, May 20 through June 2. Officers are actively looking for unbelted drivers and unrestrained children.
According to a release from HPD, in 2018, there were 255 traffic fatalities in Tennessee where occupants were not belted. Currently, the state average for seatbelt usage in Tennessee is 90 percent.
In Henderson, seatbelt usage in 2018 was 82 percent, stated Chief Gary Davidson. He also stated that it is not simply about issuing citations; it is about saving lives and preventing injuries.
Statewide seatbelt usage is lower at night and in pickup trucks. HPD wants to encourage people to wear their seatbelts and drive safely. Said Davidson, “Let’s all work together to make our streets safer.”
