Geney Odell Clayton, 83, of Henderson passed away Wednesday morning, Aug 14, 2019 at his home. Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday at New Home Baptist Church with Bro. Gerald Smith and Edward Jones officiating. Burial followed in New Home Cemetery.
He and and his wife, Jo Ann owned and operated Clayton Home Decorating and Window Blinds until he retired.
He was born July 29, 1936 in the Hickory Corner Community of Chester County, the son of the late Alvin Odell and Georgia Lavera Patterson Clayton. He attended school at Hickory Corner and married Jo Ann Taylor in 1956.
He had been a member of New Home Baptist Church since 1956 where he taught Sunday school and was song leader for over 40 years.
He enjoyed mowing yards for friends in the community, mowing the church yard and sitting on his front porch with a good cup of coffee. He enjoyed classic county music.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Taylor Clayton of Henderson; children, Michael (Vickie) Clayton of Henderson, Patricia (Randall) Jones of Finger, Pamela Durbin of Henderson, Jeffery (Stephanie) Clayton of Finger, Stacy (Dora) Clayton of Henderson and Kimberly (Jason) Hearn of Henderson; 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; sisters, Evenlyn (Wayne deceased) Weaver of Jackson, Maerine Miller of Henderson, Phyllis (Billy) Holmes of Finger and Kathy (Ronnie) Meek of Henderson; brothers, Frank (Diann) Clayton of Finger, Earl (Patsy) Clayton of Henderson, Dinnos (Erma Dean deceased) Clayton of Henderson, Aves (Debbie) Clayton of Henderson, Guy (Debbie) Clayton of Henderson and Paul Clayton of Finger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Hazel Clayton in 1941; a brother, Gerald Clayton in 1968; a grandson, Paul Tyler Jones in 1995; a granddaughter, Chasity Thomas in 2019; and a great-grandson, Drew Bartholomew in 2016.
